Breaking Bad 3x8

Comments

idk maybe you guys should’ve stopped watching if you don’t like the main character. it’s becoming harder to keep watching

doesn’t matter

That's not true most people are hooked in the first couple episodes then especially hooked after he blows up tuco with his freshly shaved head. Yes season 3 and 4 are where the show became the best show of all time.

Nick Kessler

They're rooting for Gus

Pale Ale

@Why Do I Have Subs: I do know people who did take until into mid season 2 to get the show. Personally, I wasn't even hooked by season 1, although I didn't dislike it either. I had to push my mum to restart the show 3 times before she got past season 1 and actually got hooked.

@Iorenzo: The assertion that Walt is a shit character is absurd. Maybe you mean he's a shit person (definitely a much more reasonable argument :P), but Walt is one of the most well-written and developed characters on TV. If Walt is a shit character, Breaking Bad is a shit TV show. The show is essentially a character study built around the character of Walt, with some bells and whistles to boot.

I have never met anyone that wasn't grabbed by like the end of the first season. If they don't like it by then, I'd wager it's just not a show for them.

Why Do I Have Subs

I think that's just how Breaking Bad is in general. Any time I recommend Breaking Bad I have to keep urging people on because it takes three seasons of build up to really grab you. Most people quit after one or two seasons. Plus, Gus is the best part of the show.

Honestly I think you guys are reaching. They literally explained that they were overwhelmed from the show they watched immediately before this episode. I love Breaking Bad, but IMHO the main problem reaction channels seem to have is dealing with the hardcore fanbase. Patreon seems mostly tame, but YouTube comments can be an absolute cesspool. I guess this is a problem for any series that finds its way into the "greatest of all time" debate. There are so many moments in this show (that I will not spoil) that seem small and somewhat insignificant at first glance. Then, after some carefully layered long term story telling, those moments come back around and make it worth their while. That is why the writers and directors go so far out of their way to give the show room to breathe. There is a lot of dynamic pacing. It's not just action 24/7. There are so many times where the pacing slows, lulling you into the suspense as the tension rises. This gives first time watchers a chance to gradually take everything in, even if they are binge watching. Unfortunately the superfans do not have the same luxury. We know exactly what is going to happen, when it is going to happen, why it is going to happen, and how it is going to happen. That results in an annoying army of superfans (again, mainly on YouTube comment sections) who set themselves up for disappointment whenever someone has a hot take and/or an unexpected reaction. that contradicts their own As for the Walt hate, that was literally the point of his character. Vince Gilligan himself has made it clear many times over that the goal was for fans to reach a point where they begin to dislike and/or root against Walt. Of course it is obvious that not everybody will have that same experience. However, both Arianna and Maple did. That is exactly what is happening in these reaction videos. It doesn't mean that they don't enjoy the show or appreciate the character. Both reactors have said several times that they hate Walt the person, but really love the storytelling of the character. And there's nothing wrong with that. Their reactions have been more or less exactly what Vince & co. were aiming for. Hell, this is somewhat off topic but when I first started binging Game of Thrones I had to take so many mental breaks from it because of how overwhelmed I felt from characters like Joffrey and Ramsay. The actors were great and the characters were extremely well written, but man I hated their guts. Walt isn't as extreme as those two were, but he is still an annoying POS with a toxic ass ego that can definitely be overwhelming for some. Anyways, this is all subjective. I just felt like putting in my 2 cents. Looking forward to seeing the next reactions. Thank you for listening to my TEDTalk 🙂

Keanu

Yeah I get the same feeling... feels like a chore for them. Which is totally fine. I've seen a few reactors drop off and that's totally fine. I would rather they stop instead of plowing through it.

Bryan Cranston is a phenomenal actor, and Walter White is a shit character. I think they respect the acting and I think they are also looking at Walt fairly. There is no nuanced about being a murdering lying narcissistic asshole drug dealer. I think a lot of people enjoy the acting so the defend the character. But if this character was a everyday person no one would talk about his nuances.

lorenzo

MarkyMark, I've noticed they can be pretty black and white in how they think about certain characters. It causes them to sometimes miss the more nuanced aspects of how a character is written.

Jeff I.

yes their annoyance with walt is becoming a bit hard to watch

MarkyMark

Yeah I can tell they really just don’t care about Walter, and only like a few people in the show like Jesse. I still enjoy the reactions tho and I think they appreciate the acting at least

Zane

I just wanna say... I'm in love with Arianna

Zech

Does anyone else here feel like they truly don't enjoy watching this show? I've never heard them say "i can't wait to see what happens next" it's not a good or bad thing, not everyone enjoys all the same things

TinCan Cosmanaut

Ah, yeah, "off duty carry" is what I meant, not backup. Figured there was a better term for it. Thanks for the first-person perspective.

Dan

Glad you girls recovered from last episode, both you looked pretty wrecked! BTW, yes, Gus is the F'ing Master!!!

Chris Bruneau

Im a cop and believe it or not a ton of cops do not actually carry a backup. I never carry a backup. But I do carry 40 rounds of ammo and extra magazines while on duty. But in Hanks situation it would have been technically his "off duty carry" weapon since he was not on duty. Which I always carry my off duty gun. There are a ton of Officers who dont even have a off duty gun for one reason or another. One of my best friends wife didnt even like him having his duty weapon in the house, so a second gun was out of question for him. Some Officers dont want to feel like they are on duty 24/7 so they dont carry off duty.

lorenzo

I'm not sure how the DEA actually operates IRL, but I'm not super surprised that Hank wouldn't carry a backup for the job we've seen. He's referred to as a cop, but it's not like he's on the beat where he can normally get ambushed on patrol. Mostly he's behind a desk, and when he goes after anyone, he's already got a SWAT team in front and backup behind him. And now you see where things really pick up, like a New Year's present! Happy NY!

Dan

Damn, can't say more haha, but I'd say it's more than a trilogy :) I do love the looks on everyone's faces when we see Gus' sly smile, though. Nikki and Steven were originally worried for Gus up until this point, thinking he may become a target after the twins were bloodied up. But then you see Gus and everyone's like, "Nah wait, he got this!" haha. It's so good to see.

Dan

Everyone talks about the two episodes before this one but for me it's like a trilogy. For the first time really you get a look into Gus's pure savagery

Justin

Things are starting to get good
