2024-01-24 05:34:32 +0000 UTCWell first off, I never said he was upstanding. I said the field was. No shit a lot of the stuff he does is stupid. Humans do stupid things. Getting in fights is unhealthy yes. Hank is a human character. Humans are flawed and yeah, he does bend the rules. But he doesn't do these things for the wrong reasons. He's not doing them for the sake of greed and he's not a dirty cop. He has solid morals. I just was making a point of the clear differences between someone like Walt and Hank. They both have some ego, but they're used in different ways and to different ends. Their differences far outweigh their similarities.

2023-12-25 00:39:01 +0000 UTCI like Hank a lot as a character but he is not an "upstanding cop", at this point in the show he has said + done racist things, he uses extra-judicial force / breaks the law when it benefits him, refuses to engage emotionally or accurately report things, refuses to seek help when he's struggling in ways that make him a liability to his peers + civilians etc. That's just the stuff he's done directly, not including his role in upholding systemic issues as a DEA agent in the 2000s 'war on drugs'. As for there being "no wrong way to cope", I think risking your life starting bar fights with strangers (then pulling your DEA badge out when things get too rough) is inarguably dangerous and stupid. Hank and Walt have issues of masculinity in common.

He's a cop, that's an upstanding field 😅 That was a fucked up thing Walt did lol but because they're the protagonists, we root for them more. The crushing of the RV was oddly somber. It's the end of an Era, from when things were much simpler, before Walt turned into a damn supervillain. Hank isn't really doing anything "wrong" in terms of coping. I mean there's healthy ways to cope, but whatever works for some people, works. (Unless it involves being a danger to yourself or others, which doesn't apply here) Hanks bravado and racist jokes is more of a surface thing it seems. He says racist things, but they don't seem to actually reflect how he feels. It's like a shield. Cause he clearly feels things, like when he thought Marie was in an accident, he just completely dropped all of that. That kind of shield is definitely a sign of the times, like you said. But people like Walt it's more the opposite. Being that full of ego, borderline narcissism, is who Walt wants to be, but he's never been able to let it out. Can't wait for the rest of season 3! You guys haven't hit the ceiling yet 🙌
