I think I really hate how things went, I am so disappointed about what Dean did to Death :/

hClay

This episode pretty much was confirmation that Dean should've died in Season 2 after the car wreck... him being alive and keeping this lifestyle going has caused countless additional unnecessary deaths. Looking at the past 10 seasons with you under a microscope has made me realize all of this is Dean's fault. He's never gotten over the trauma of losing his mom and family life at the age of 4, and hunting has been how he's coped. And if everyone else gotta suffer so he can continue hunting, then yeah. Plus, in hindsight, I'd just enjoy that more now since I'm not a fan of Jensen Ackles on a personal level. 🤣

I dunno. God's supposed to be omniscient 🤷 'Course, that's a can of worms that might not be helpful to open. 😜

Watching your reaction, I see that we have pretty much opposite opinions regarding this episode. In the series, there are episodes I like, episodes I don’t like, even some episodes that disgust me. But no episode can get me enraged like this one. There are episodes I care less about, but this one is definitely the one I hate the most in the whole series. Sure, you’re right, Sam and Dean are not evil. But this episode proves once again that they’re incredibly selfish. After hearing Death’s story about the Darkness, the idea of Dean getting put away somewhere he couldn’t hurt anyone ever again was the safest option for the world. Because something called Darkness, the thing that God himself had to fight in order to create the world, definitely is not unicorns and rainbows. If removing the Mark of Cain means setting it free, the only reasonable option would be not to remove the Mark. Ever. Once again, the brothers have proved that they’re ready to sacrifice the world to save each other. And never before they’ve done it on a larger scale than this time. I know that they mean well, so they can never be considered as evil, but they’re not entirely good either, because someone who’s supposed to be the hero of the situation should never be that selfish. This even goes past the fact that they’re not perfect, this is just a line that they shouldn’t have crossed. This is the point in the series when I realized that it didn’t matter what happened, the Winchesters were never going to learn from their past mistakes, they were going to repeat the same cycle over and over again, almost destroying the world for each other, remaining codependent in a sick way. When I first watched this episode, I even considered to stop watching the series. I only continued because the concept of the Darkness intrigued me, and in the end I’m super glad that I kept watching, but this episode almost got me away from Supernatural. From your reaction, I see that you appreciated the emotional approach to the idea of Dean killing Sam. I, on the other hand, never appreciated that approach. I don’t like the way they handled it, especially on Dean’s part. “I killed innocent people so I’m evil and I need to be removed from the world” is so not the point here. In my opinion, the point should be “this thing is controlling my actions so I need to be removed from the world”. This concept had me find the scene where Dean refuses to kill Sam even more enraging. I found it almost pointless, to be honest. At the end of the episode, I was also expecting you to spend more words on Death’s death. I was curious to know more regarding your opinion on how it happened, and what you imagine might mean for the future. Personally, I always loved Death as a character, and I always thought that the actor is just phenomenal in that part. So among all the deaths in the show, this is the one that got me mad more than any other. More than Bobby, more than Charlie, Death hit me hard. Not with sadness, but with rage. I don’t know, mine is probably an unpopular opinion, but I always found this season finale underwhelming and disappointing. But the last scene, with the Darkness finally free, makes it up for all the rest anyway. And now I can’t wait to watch your reactions to season 11, getting to see what it means to deal with the consequences of having set the Darkness free.

i think Dean was going to kill Sam. Dean thought it was the only way to keep from "killing the world." Knowing that Sam would keep trying to get Dean back from wherever Death sent him, there was no choice. The mark took over to kill Death, if Dean was alone "in space" the mark could not be sated. Just my thoughts.

Good question. Maybe they'd asked in the past for her services, but couldn't get him. This was Julian's way for the SPN showrunners to save face? Also, they couldn't replace him with no reason (on the show). If they were going to get a new Death, they needed a reason for that.

Those are my theories.

Just dropping by to echo everything. 👍

Season 10 isn't one of my personal favourites but damn this was a good finale I feel like MOC Dean made up for what I Initially expected demon Dean to be

One of my favourite finales. Season 11's is probably the only one I rank higher. Everything about this episode is just beautiful. And yes, Crowley did what he did for Dean. By this point, Dean is the most important person in his life.

Many good points are made here, but sorry not sorry, I'll never be mad that the brothers save each other. They can't do what they do without each other, they still do more good than ill, and considering everything they've given up, everything they've sacrificed, again and again, family, friends, a life, love, I will not condemn them for being too "selfish" to kill their brother, or let their brother die. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm aware others feel differently, and that's valid, but nope, I was only relieved with this ending. (Well, obviously not happy with the pillars of smoke happening, but overall, very relieved and happy.) The mark is gone, and our Dean is back!

Absolutely fabulous reaction to an amazing episode. I will fully admit that the first time I watched this, when Dean says, "Close your eyes." the tears started, but then when he says, "Sammy, close your eyes." I just friggin' lost it. I was a blubbering mess! That moment was only possible because of the ten years the boys (Jared and Jensen, I mean) spent honing the bond between these two brothers, ten years of incredible brotherly moments and the love and chemistry that shines through every performance is what made that moment such a powerful one. The scene in the motel room, when he sees Cas and Rudy's faces and then trashes the room, rips my heart out every time. His face at the end of that scene is just wrecked, he's so lost and so guilty and I wanna hug him so bad! Can I also say that him smashing up the motel room is simultaneously gut wrenching and hot af! It's the Jensen Ackles special! 😄🤤😄 Jared also KILLS it in this episode, going from angry when he's talking to Cas about the consequences of removing the mark, to terrified for his brother when he sees the cabin where Rudy is dead, and the motel room where Dean gives him Baby. And then those ending scenes, his eyes are so emotive and heartbreaking, explaining perfectly why Dean can't look into his baby brother's eyes and swing that scythe. 😭😭😭 Anyway, loved everything about this! Can't wait for season 11! One of my top 5 episodes of the series is in Season 11!! 💓

I Don't get it. Death was not a regular. They could have easily just not have him show up lol. Why kill him?

Christopher simeon

FYI Julian Richlings asked them to kill off his character, because he is so busy and they can only use him on SPN when his schedule is open. At the time he was a regular on another series and had a contract where those show runners had say so if he could appear in another show.

Amye Sabin

Remember in episode 2.01 where Dean says "you can't kill Death" (while using the talking board)....

About that...

Amye Sabin

To be fair i don't think God knew the mark would corrupt lucy.

Christopher simeon

We also learned that god & his archangels locked the darkness & the mark was the lock & god gave it to lucifer & it corrupted him & made him jealous of humans, wtf!! Why doesn't it surprise me that the god in this world would do that 😏, death really did a great info dumb on us before he died
