I saw the flash of Rose the Hat in the YT edit. I can't wait for the Dr. Sleep reaction! Another gem that sadly wasn't a financial success.

2023-10-14 05:09:00 +0000 UTCReally suggest reading into the implications of the Bear costume scene... lots of Bear imagery throughout the film that ties it all together in a really sad, fucked up way. Sort of the skeleton key for the movie for me

2023-10-12 20:17:34 +0000 UTCGreat as always. Consider Frailty for another fun movie. BTW glad to see the hair budget has increased for this channel. We see you growing it out Chad.

2023-10-08 09:49:20 +0000 UTCThough many suggest Cuckoo's Nest, I'm much more a fan of Jack Nicholson in a brilliantly done character study called Five Easy Pieces from 1970. It's a understated, dramatic role for him, and we see a lot of the raw talent that would become the basis for his idiosyncratic, if sometimes cartoonish, acting style later in his career. It also won him his first Oscar nomination and got him really noticed by Hollywood.

2023-10-08 07:03:26 +0000 UTCStanley Kubrick was a legend that all the legends wanted to work with. There is a guy named Rob Ager. He has a few channels and most agree his analysis of Stanley Kubrick work is as good as it gets. They helped me develop much better understanding and appreciation for this movie and Full Metal Jacket especially.

2023-10-08 06:36:30 +0000 UTCGlad you all enjoyed this one! For another amazing fantastic performance by Jack Nicholson, you should watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)! It is one of only 3 films to win the Big 5 at the Oscars: Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay.

2023-10-08 05:23:07 +0000 UTCThis might be a hot take, but I prefer the 1997 remake to this version. Closer to the book, plus the kid in this freaks me out.

2023-10-07 22:22:31 +0000 UTCJack Nicholsen is sooo great in this! between his acting and the music, its one of the creepiest movies ever made IMO

2023-10-07 03:41:33 +0000 UTCStephen King stories take place mostly in Maine and New England. Kubrick filmed most of his movies in the UK, including The Shining, except some of the scenery being shot in Colorado and California on location by someone else.

2023-10-07 03:33:43 +0000 UTCBtw, "that music" is György Ligeti's "Lontano". Together with contemporaries like Stockhausen, Xenakis, Boulez, and Varese, Ligeti was one of the giants of "Neue Musik" mid 20th century, following in the abstract, experimental footsteps of composers like Schönberg, Webern, and Bartok. Kubrick seems to have been quite fond of Ligeti - also using his "Lux Aeterna" to great effect in "2001: A Space Odyssey". And neither of these movies would feel as intense without Ligeti's eery and evocative soundscapes.

2023-10-07 02:34:51 +0000 UTCRoom 237 would be a cool follow up to this. Its a documentary about the symbolism and meaning of this movie.
