Ok so before I go into more on the movie I'll give u a little background on me. I was born and raised in Cincinnati OH. In 2006 I was addicted to several things and had to get away so I joined the Army. I spent 5 years in Ft. Drum NY. G company 3-6 Field Artillery Battalion 1st Brigade 10th Mountain Division. I deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq from 07 to 08 for 15 months and Afghanistan from 10 to 11 for 12 months. Then I got stationed in Hawaii for the next 5 years. So having said that, you can understand why this film means so much to me. Your take on Upham shows that at least in some ways you are wise beyond your years. Some people aren't cut out for it more so than others. And now he will probably be cold and damaged the rest of his life 💔. I know people say pussy or coward when discussing him but 99% of those people haven't left their state. Guys freeze all the time early on and won't get out of the truck or won't move to a position under fire. It just takes some longer to adjust. Thank you so much Maple for taking the time to give this one the attention and respect it deserves. The whole time I'm like, "Come here Maple it's okay" 😂🤣. Love u guys and time for Breaking Bad now. ❤️

2024-08-19 02:33:20 +0000 UTCMan I'm only 35 minutes in and he's reading the Abe Lincoln letter and I'm already a mess. One thing I love about this movie is how well they depict all the different types of reactions people have to traumatic experiences like this. Some are terrified, some freeze, some panic. Some are just crazy people that say things like "Joining the military is where you get to kill someone without going to jail". 😬 The best soldiers are represented by our main characters. Though most of them are terrified and will never be the same, they are able to use that fear as a motivator while staying focused on the mission.

2024-08-18 23:55:19 +0000 UTCOk I found what I'm watching to night. Happy to cry with you Maple lol. The best war movie ever made imo but difficult to watch. As a veteran of 10 years this one always cuts particularly deep. Let's see how this goes lol.

2023-10-05 02:13:28 +0000 UTCFubar means "Fucked up Beyond all recognition" this movie has tons of little details that are super easy to miss. a lot of soldiers in the german army were people from occupied countries forced to fight. near the beginning when they are taking the beach and they shoot the soldiers who are surrending and joke how they said "look i washed for supper" they are actually speaking czech and they are saying "“Please don’t shoot me! I am not German, I am Czech, I didn’t kill anyone! I am Czech!""

2023-10-04 21:04:27 +0000 UTCAw snap! I didn't know this was coming. Poor Maple, she has no idea how emotionally devastating this film is! I saw it live at the theatre with my Dad, who was a Korean War Vet. Afterward, he said, "I tried to forget what people's guts really looked like."
