IMO. The entire series is about abuse and how you overcome it, or don't in Azula's case. Abuse at a familial level, and at a societal level. The only way past such abuse is embracing what happened before in its entirety, and learning to depend on other humans to get oneself past that history. Only through connection and hope can we deal with disconnection and nihilism. That is the message of the Guru episode. Of Toph's discovery of metal bending. Of Aangs last decision to spare the Firelord. And everything else that happens in the series.

The Lion turtles are the original keepers of the elements bestowed upon them by the gods. They handed out the elements temporarily to people whenever they wanted to go hunting or outside the city. Each civilization lived ontop of a Lion turtle who gifted a different element. They say the original benders were animals (dragons, badger moles etc.) But technically it's the turtles

I still can't fully believe they really managed such a great finale to an already great show. I loved Aang's discussions with his former lives, I loved Zuko's reunion, I loved the Lion Turtle's brief talk, Zuko and Katara confronting Azula was epic, so was the White Lotus freeing Ba Sing Se, so was Team Boomeraang confronting the airships, and Aang confronting the Firelord was somehow next level even compared to all that. The Avatar State fight still gives me chills. Then they still take time after that to wrap everything up with a nice little bow.

Do ppl actually watch this series with the mindset that aang is 12/azula is 14/etc throughout the whole thing? With the emotional depth of some of these chars i find it hard to believe that by the end we are supposed to be looking at azula as a troubled highschool freshman

The last line of dialogue spoken in the show...is a blind joke. Cosplay: Well done! Part III: Into The Inferno is my favorite episode of the entire series. The Zuko/Azula Agni Kai is just stunning. The colors, the animation, the tragic MUSIC in contrast to the beautiful violence being displayed in the fight. I can't think of too many episodes of any show that are on par with the artistic brilliance of this one. I hope you are going to continue with Korra!

I love watching people react to the show, it's almost like watching it for the first time all over again!!! ^_^ I will say, there are some interesting video essays on everything ATLA, one of which breaks down the psychology of Azula. TLDR, though, she got love and praise from the wrong person and it made her think that she had to be feared to be respected. Also, keep in mind she's only 14!

Exactly. I did alot of reading in the ATLA community, and had low expectations for TLOK, but when I watched it I realized that "different" can also be "okay". I can love both for different reasons. ATLA is not TLOK and TLOK is not ATLA. ATLA is ATLA. And TLOK is TLOK. And I would never have it any other way.

Don't worry guys, they aired this as a 2 hour finale all at once so we didn't have to wait a week in between lol ALSO the original creators are in the middle of making new Avatar movies and the first one is gonna be a movie about Team Avatar as adults and comes out in 2025:)

Yeah without spoiling much the lion turtles are ancient beings that were there from the beginning. They go into detail in Korra about their origin and it's very interesting. So sad to see this series finished but great to know something else will be coming x

The lion turtles are further explained in the legend of Korra. The story is interesting but I think I liked the shroud of mystery the lion turtle had in ATLA more.
