A white knight is business slang for a friendly company with deep pockets that can outbid the price of a hostile pursuer (black knight), in this case, Sandy Furness. That said, in the real world, white knights are more often sought to avoid bankruptcy rather than hostile takeover as those are extremely uncommon in the last 20+ years. Seeking a white knight is preferable to a hostile takeover as typically, white knights will keep executive board members and senior management in place and look to rebuild the company internally. So even though they technically still lose control, they still have jobs.
