The S1 cast had a 6 year contract, and after the 6th season, Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Josh Dallas decided not to renew their contracts. Lana Parrilla and Robert Carlyle we're the only S1 regulars to sign a new contract Jennifer did say in a post about her decision to leave that she was asked to stay, but declined but agreed to 1 episode as a goodbye (she's credited as a "Special Guest Star" in this episode) The creators said that they started the show with an outline of 6 seasons. They claim that after the S4 finale, they started toying with the idea of a soft reboot focusing on Henry. The term they came up with for this season was "requel" part reboot, part sequel. One way I see it is the show started as "What happened after Snow White's happy ending?" And focused on her daughter. Now after 6 seasons, this season starts it over again with "What happened after Emma's happy ending? And focuses on her son
