I thought Belle giving up her child was a nice parallel to Snow but I also thought it was meant to parallel Emma giving up Henry, which might also be why Emma was so inspired by Belle in this episode. She knows what it's like to give up a child for its best chance. The Black Fairy's a really interesting character because this is actually not the first time she's been mentioned on the show. Way back in Season 1 Episode 3, Snow was going to use Black Fairy Dust against Regina but she ends up using it on some trolls to turn them into bugs to save Charming. In Season 3 Episode 11, Tinkerbell gets the Black Fairy's wand from the nuns so that it can be used to restore Henry and Pan back to their regular bodies. In Season 3 Episode 22, The Black Fairy's wand again is used by Emma to recreate a time portal in Rumple's castle so they can go back to the present. We don't know much about her at this point, except that she's mega-powerful and used to be good once, but she's a cool character. The writers could give me an episode of just the Evil Queen insulting people in different outfits and I would eat it up. That "I hear fairies make wonderful mothers" line had me screaming.
