My interpretation is that the mushrooms were a way to commune with the dead, but because they were talking so much they became doorways for the angry ghosts to become manifest. I also think that taking enough allows you to move in the spirt world [two way door], thus the old guy the nurse[Michelle] thought raped her, did do it. The spirits were keeping the door closed to the bathroom at the end, but when the overdosing old guy was sedated [or some counteracting drug] the doorway he provided closed and the bathroom door finally opened easily. I found it odd but reflective of the culture’s attitude towards rape victims that Mulder who believes in all sorts of far out stuff, finds it hard to believe in “entity rape” despite Michelle’s physical injuries. Only Skully seemed sympathetic to her throughout the episode. Been randomly binging your X-files reactions since joining Patreon today, and in Sleepless you both wondered if anyone joined patreon just for the X-files reactions. Don’t know about others but at least I did :D
