I see the Cora/Eva backstory in this storyline as almost a mirror to Regina and Snow, only barely a percentage of the wrong on Eve's part and a million times more petty on Cora's part as all Eva did was trip her intentionally and cause Cora to be humiliated in front of people who otherwise would not have even noticed she was there. Per Cora's own words, Princess Eva ( I would assume mid to young teen, while Cora was probably around 20-ish) so sort of like her daughter (I would say Regina's hatred came from a far more serious grievance) she harbored a petty vendetta against a child, a spoiled princess (kind of like we saw Snow was in her youth last episode).
