Default font poll for Piczel.tv Chat
Added 2021-04-21 16:06:51 +0000 UTCHello everyone, we've got something to put to the community finally, as we ramp up development with the addition of a new developer!
We've been upgrading the chat quite a bit lately, both in terms of performance and aesthetics. One of the things requested somewhat often is a change in the chat font.
As of yesterday, we've pushed an update that allows you to change your font to a few different options - OpenDyslexic, Comic Neue, Open Sans, Merriweather, and of course the current/longstanding default of Quicksand lite.
We're considering changing the default to be more readable. Not to Open Dyslexic as it's pretty chunky, and not Merriweather as we want the default to be sans serifs, but both Comic Neue and Open Sans are pretty nice.
Please vote below after looking at the screenshots (or playing around on google fonts with the above links) to help us decide what to do about our chat font. Thank you!

I like the character of Comic Neue, but the neutrality of Open Sans makes it the more understandable choice. Maybe with slightly wider kerning, the letters feel a little close together in that screenshot.

2021-04-22 00:15:56 +0000 UTCMy priority would be having a font with clearly distinguishable letters and high compatibility. Quicksand and Open Sans fail by having I be practically indistict from l. Comic Neue reads really good but on the other hand it's a is very similar to o and also fails my international letter test, at least in google fonts. Andika is an extremely good font (IMO) which checks all boxes here. You can :3 with it, too. I'd try finding some more but it's past 2 AM now. It always ends up like this somehow.
2021-04-22 00:12:43 +0000 UTCHonestly the main thing I care about is just not having a pointy 3. The current default always throws off people in my chat when they try to do a :3 emoticon and it looks wonky, lol
