September Piczel.tv Update
Added 2018-09-04 18:21:23 +0000 UTCHello all-
I'd love to hear your responses to my questions at the end of this update - please scroll down and give them a read!
It's been quite a while since our last update post, and for that I am very sorry. We've been more active on our tumblr and twitter lately, so please follow us there to make sure you don't miss anything.
This month's premium codes have been sent! Please let me know if you haven't gotten one you should have. We have also enabled charge-up-front, but our script doesn't handle high pledge tiers well yet. Part of what we're up to is fixing our patreon script to do so, but the API is frustratingly limited.
In the past few months we've done quite a bit!
Free Recording and timelapses are live! Check here to enable both. If you would like help optimizing your stream to generate smaller timelapse or recording files, please just ask and I am happy to do so. Note that free users' timelapses are watermarked, and are only kept for 3 days, compared to premium users' 1 month. As of now, if you lose your premium status, you will have your recordings deleted - we're working on a fix for that as well.
We have a new stream player - the 'Fast HLS' option. It should allow stream latency on the order of 5 seconds, compared to the default HLS of 16s. In some cases Fast HLS may buffer more, and the streamer must set their keyframe interval to 1s (for 8s of latency) or .5s (via the advanced command `keyint= .5 * your fps setting`. If you need help with this, please ask and I am happy to. Lowering your keyframe interval will use more CPU power and bandwidth for the same quality, but that's the price for lower latency.
We've also enabled private streams to use dedicated URLs instead of requiring password prompts, and added an automatic password generator for those that want to change it frequently. For those of you that do private patreon streams, please let us know what you think!
I think that's all for now, what do you all think of the way piczel is going? Anything in particular you are worried about, or would like to see improved? Is there anything we've done really well lately and you would like to point out?
Thank you all again for another fantastic month of support!

2018-09-09 03:09:30 +0000 UTCWould this be by time in chat? Messages sent? Not sure how we can make this work but not be abusable, I'm all ears!

2018-09-09 03:09:11 +0000 UTCThis is a good idea! We'll spend some time working on improvements for the queue in a bit, SoonTM

2018-09-09 03:08:52 +0000 UTCI agree the raffle isn't great - currently you can manually do /random user1 user2 user3 etc, but that's not exactly easy, I know. We're looking into what it would take to do something like you'd like, but it's not a trivial problem for our chat software

2018-09-09 02:51:25 +0000 UTCPretty satisfied atm. Image previews for uploaded emoticons have been a bit wonky, not sure if thats a common issue or just my end. Past that, can't complain.

2018-09-05 02:04:38 +0000 UTCI think maybe a poll system or something to make the raffle system a little more exciting might be interesting. Before it became smashcast (ick) hitbox had a feature where you could create a poll, and pick a raffle from anyone who entered it. Basically some sort of opt-in/opt-out functionality for the raffle would be nice. Since I know a bunch of artists who do raffle request drawstreams and something like this would be an improvement over the basick "Pick someone random in the chat room, who can even be a one of the people streaming"

2018-09-04 22:49:46 +0000 UTCIt would be something like this - <a href="https://i.imgur.com/8XRgkwq.png" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://i.imgur.com/8XRgkwq.png</a> - I should've been clearer. I'll make a help page entry about it. Note that this significantly increases bandwidth usage - more than double when you have your keyframe interval set to 4. If you run into your bandwidth cap, your stream quality will start to degrade, and of course people may have trouble viewing your stream. Just something to keep in mind. You can get 8s latency by simply setting your keyframe interval to 1, and it will use less bandwidth and CPU power of course. After setting these, make sure you have a steady fps, and no "encoding overloaded" warning, because again, the keyframe interval being lower uses more CPU power.

2018-09-04 22:13:06 +0000 UTCAlso, perhaps a faster way to access the gallery queue? right now you gotta do a bunch o clicks. Maybe a button right there in the gallery or in the dropdown menu of the profile pic? I just like queueing posts and checking everything is in order, or quickly changing pieces of order :X

2018-09-04 20:42:48 +0000 UTCSo, if my set fps is 30, and i want the 5 second latency, that means its .5*30=15 keyframe interval? or what did you mean with "advanced command" ?
