Piczel.tv Development Focus
Added 2017-09-13 13:19:02 +0000 UTCGood morning everyone!
This is a bit of an update post as well as a poll to get a gauge on what you'd like to see us improve on next.
Lately, the Piczel.tv team has been working on the following (pulling roughly from our git logs)
-Background performance fixes, stability improvements (For a while we were crashing on occasion and piczel wouldn't load - this was due to a memory leak that we've since fixed)
-Push notifications! These are my favorite, personally - instead of needing to get an email, you can get push notifications for streamers going live and uploading new posts to the gallery, without requiring the piczel tab to be open in your browser. You can enable these in the notification dropdown on piczel, and they should work on both your phone and desktop. (No iOS support, blame apple!)
-Chat improvements (Custom emote strings, and old messages are now greyed out to be more obviously old)
-Patreon integration of course (For those that pledged early on, you might not have gotten an automatic premium code, but they are now sent out immediately upon pledging)
-Toggle all setting for the list of people you're following
-Error/alert/infobox tweaks and changes, mostly to improve error descriptions but also to fix some small visual bugs
-Popular images are now pulled from the previous 30 days, not all time.
-Various small UI fixes and tweaks
With all that said - what do you all want us to focus our efforts on next?
I've pulled out a few options of what we've got planned for the near future, so please let us know what is important to you.
Introductory guide(s) - Something like http://introjs.com/ that steps new users through the piczel interface.
Recorded stream player - replace our current recorded stream UI with a streamable recording player, so you don't have to download every stream to watch it. Downloading would still be an option of course
Image gallery improvements - image reordering on uploads, comments (do you all want comments? Definitely would have an option to disable them), anything else?
Messaging - similar to FA's note system, but perhaps with a better looking UI. Is this something you'd want? We're on the fence about this one
Server side rendering - this would allow all pages to have a proper preview when linked on tumblr, twitter, whatever. Possible better performance, and a few other nice side effects. Fairly large amount of effort though.
Please comment! We want this to be the community's site as much as it is ours, and we can't do that without feedback.

Went with other. Advertising is my two cents. Could some of your time and budget into a few banner ads or something like that? I think you provide a great platform and would love to see more people using it.
2018-02-10 20:52:47 +0000 UTCchanged vote :X other : stitching together 2 private streams through the "add to page / + " function. currently i cant add someone else's private stream to mine as it prompts that its private and i cant type in a password fior it.

2017-09-19 18:39:34 +0000 UTCWe've got a ticket to add reordering actually, just a matter of getting to it - it'll be bundled with gallery/feed updates we think, which we're hoping to do after we get server side rendering working, since everything we change before doing SSR makes it that much harder.

2017-09-19 17:14:50 +0000 UTCSomething that has been bothering me with the gallery is when you post images as a group you can't reorder the images or add new ones after an initial post. you have to delete it and start from scratch.
2017-09-19 17:08:44 +0000 UTCI've recommended it before but a more customizable raffle system would be great. One where you its either opt-in, or the streamer can customize who is a part of it.

2017-09-17 00:26:27 +0000 UTCThat is a good idea! I will run it past the team and see what they say

2017-09-13 19:02:20 +0000 UTC:o ohh, you raise a good question. Perhaps a similar page, but instead of typing the password it could say; "You're about to enter your private stream" "Ok" "Change Private Stream Settings" :> But I'll leave it up to you

2017-09-13 18:54:20 +0000 UTCIt may be - I will check with my programmers. The question then is, is that a good idea? I worry that some users might not realize their stream is private, and then complain that there are no viewers. You are one of the most frequent private streamers on piczel, so I will weigh your opinion heavily :)

2017-09-13 18:48:09 +0000 UTCIs it possible for the user with the premium account, with the private stream option, not to type the password for his own stream? :>

2017-09-13 18:47:18 +0000 UTCCould you explain a bit more what you mean by that? A quick scribble in mspaint would probably go a long way to make sure we understand what you're suggesting
The Piczel.tv Team
2017-09-13 17:01:21 +0000 UTCFor that would it be out of the question to add a collapse option that scrolls with you for threads that get a bit too long?

2017-09-13 16:36:59 +0000 UTCIt's not like that? xD I never noticed. huh. But yeah, one click, no more D; I totally agree.

2017-09-13 15:00:16 +0000 UTCI was thinking all comments would load at once, otherwise you have to click a million times to see everything - I don't like that patreon makes you load and then load more comments, vs once comments are loaded, they should all be loaded
The Piczel.tv Team
2017-09-13 14:57:40 +0000 UTCThat works too :o something like patreon's ui i guess, with their "Load more comments" thing. IMO my idea aims towards a simpler, cleaner experience, but i can see the practicality of having the comments one click away and leaving comments/replying on the fly without leaving the timeline
Kenno Arkkan
2017-09-13 14:55:54 +0000 UTCI'd been thinking about perhaps a "Show comments" button below the post on the feed - so you can show comments easily if you want to see what's up, but they don't take up a ton of space if you don't want to see them
The Piczel.tv Team
2017-09-13 14:53:22 +0000 UTCwell, the whole point of comments is discussion, so i think threaded comments are needed for a proper experience. Otherwise you end with tumblrs thing where you end up screenshotting people's comments and replying to them on separate posts hah. On the feed tho, i'm not so sure. I do enjoy the seamless experience of just scrolling down, so maybe leave those off, and they become only visible once you enter on the art post itself.
Kenno Arkkan
2017-09-13 14:51:37 +0000 UTCAnything in particular you do/don't want with comments? Threaded like patreon's interface? Non-threaded? Shown on favorites in the feed? Breaking new ground here, since tumblr dropped the ball so hard on this

2017-09-13 13:56:59 +0000 UTCI do want comments :O
