Body Lab Replay: Is it a thought or a feeling?

In this class recording from last Sunday, we use play and objects in our space as a touch stone to explore how we feel about something, and what we think about something.

In the studio we had items placed around the studio, like a shell, a crystal, an orange, and we had folks notice how they felt, and what they thought, about the objects. Due to privacy, there are some moments in class when there’s not much to see, but there are verbal directions.

It might feel weird (or it may be a piece of cake!) to do this exercise in your own space, but I encourage you to try it. You will need to get up and play and be silly.

I would love to know what your experience was after you complete the class- did you do it? was it awkaward?

If you are a movement facilitator, or if you teach kids, this is a really fun way to get people up on their feet and moving and exploring something as simple as: how do I feel about this thing?

You will need:

-A Coregous ball

-The small yoga tune-up balls for trapezius work

CLASS FLOW:

-We start by sitting on the Coregous ball and noticing the sensations and feelings we experience while sitting on the ball.

-Can you differentiate the difference between a feeling and a thought? A feeling is embodied, and works through the nervous system. (Often thoughts stay one-note unless the thought is trying to be embodied.)

(This work can be used in therapy and is considered critical in the discerning process.)

-Then we get up for exercises that encourage movement and interactive with objects around the room.

Let me know how it goes!
