Body Lab Replay 1/22/23 - Gentle Pelvis & Low back Care

Hello Body Labbers!

Here is the replay of our monthly Body Lab class.

In this class we tend to the pelvis and low back with tenderness and care!

As winter brings the cold and drier air, we might be moving less - in the point of view of traditional Chinese Medicine, that is totally ok! Yes, the Winter is Yin time and our energy is not as available for big and fast movements. We might be feeling the need to stay still and maybe even isolate right now. We might be listening to our body that is asking for energy conservation.

If you have not been moving much, you are in alignment with the season however, our joints, muscles and organs do need a dynamic amount of movement everyday to keep from stiffness and stagnation. Studies have proven that exercise is linked to uplifting our mood and vital to mental health. In addition, in my work of somatic release work, our hips hold a lot of emotions. Why someone's hips are tight can be stemming from repetitive motion like running, lack of muscle tone from not enough conscious movement,  unresolved issues like scar tissue from injury, birthing, sexual trauma as well as physical alignment compensations.

I created this gentle class for my students whose discomfort (back pain included) might be stemming from the pelvic area. This is not a deep emotional dive into somatic release work of the hips, because I first wanted to introduce the bones as they are our deepest location of mapping the hips. I find anatomy so empowering - once we learn and feel our body's structure in a visceral way instead of in a theoretical way, its like learning the alphabet, you can begin writing your own story and learning about this world you literally live in with much more clarity.

Love to know if you got any insight from your pelvis.

Hope you enjoy!

Rie
