RT-880 Default Skin

Since I have four times more flash space than other radios, I'm able to set default fonts, default skin, settings, bandplan etc.. so that unlike the 890 and 900 it'll just work right after flashing.

The image is not final of course, I'm still fine tuning layouts etc.. But there's so many things to consider with this new skinning system it's insane.

Although you cannot tell from the picture, the bottom two VFOs are dimmed.

I've not quite decided on how to address the signal meter. I have all the back end code for it done, but I need to work out how it will fit into the skinning side. Colors, size, location, style etc..

The UI is taking BY FAR the longest amount of time due to the massive re-write of it. Driver code for the radio chip, SPI flash, LCD etc.. is pretty much a copy paste, so once the UI is nailed down, things should start to fly from there.

Oh and the menu, I think we'll go for a categorized system, like the stock firmware. But I'll try to make it less annoying. So it'll remember where you were last time rather than put you back to the beginning each time you open it.

This was planned, pocket menus, it's possible with the new menu system. A long key press can create a temporary menu category that is user defined, i.e. can have anything in it they want.

The exploratory firmware has proven to be really efficient. I have had it installed from the beginning and have worked with it for more than 100 QSOs, two contests and one diploma in this time. I have only returned to the factory firmware once. Once the real firmware is released, could you release it as open source? To be my perfect firmware, it would only be missing a couple of little things that I could implement myself.... :-)

on the ui. have you seen the ijk k5 firmware? it uses contextual "windows" on long presses. (filters, modulation, etc) pressing long a key, it shows a small window and permits selecting the value. may be a good idea. it is confortable to use.
