RT-880

Work on the RT-880 nicFW actual is now fully underway. The first thing I'm tackling is the new configurable UI.

Many things in the 880 firmware are rewrites, and while I'm not working from scratch as I have a lot of reference code, it is still a large job. I am noticing a lot of member fall off, I can only assume this is due to what appears to be lack of progress. This does happen when I'm deep into a project, I can go quiet for a while. Users from the old Facebook group should be used to this as it happened all the time, but I always delivered the goods. This is now a big part of my income, member fall off is going to hurt.

I am wanting to shift to doing this fully, ditch my (now part-time) job and commit 100% of my time to these projects. It is after all what I love doing, and people seem to be pleased with what I create.

I will make regular update posts like these while I'm deep into the development pool like I am currently. It can sometimes take a while in this stage until usable releases appear, so I feel letting members know I'm still here and slogging away is necessary. Please be patient with me.

Member suggestions about the direction of the 880 firmware have been made and noted, this stuff is gold, keep it coming. Remember, this project is now as much yours as mine, I'm no longer writing this for just myself and letting others use it, I'm now doing this for you guys.

This new direction for nicFW on the RT-880 will likely filter back down to the 900 and 890 models. They likely won't go into the TD-H3 however due to that radio's lack of storage, limited RAM and slow MCU. This new direction takes full advantage of these better platforms; a lot of 'compromise' code that was necessary for the firmware to "fit" in the TD-H3 naturally got ported to the later models when I did the conversions, I'm trying to eliminate that now.

I also work with FPGA firmware, and I know how hard it is. I've seen people pay on Patreon for a month to download what they're interested in, and then they don't pay again until later, when the development is mature. Cheer up!

It's coming, we're still pretty early.

Hi guys just joined here from TID h3 days Facebook group is the 880 firmware ok for the GPS aprs model or (G) or is that in developing mode thanks

You can test this yourself with the diagnostic firmware, you have control over every GPIO relevant for transmit. No matter what you try, you just cannot get any output on 200MHz, so sorry, I'm a coder, not a miracle worker.

One more suggestion for the RT-880: pretty pretty please get it to Tx on 1.25m/220mhz band! That's been my biggest gripe on the 880, where both my TD-H3 and RT-900 CAN transmit and hit repeaters on 1.25m, and the 880 can NOT! BUT I just found this post on FB about how the iRadio UV-98 CAN seemingly transmit (and at 4w which isn't too bad) on 1.25m, but the RT-880 can't... and since they have the same exact hardware (right?) this means it's a firmware limitation Radtel puts on the 880 I assume... so I'm REALLY hoping when your firmware is all fleshed out that the 880 can transmit on 1.25m just like the UV-98 can (even if it's a dirty Tx - I'll take it lol)! Also to note, I wrote the FB guy to have him confirm because several other videos show like 0.1w on 1.25m... so I don't know where the discrepancy might be, or with different serial number versions (or bad testing) or what... Picture of the one guys tests from a FB post about this: https://imgur.com/a/RBxhDQZ
