RT-880 Coming Along
Added 2025-06-30 11:29:54 +0000 UTCProgress is moving along steadily, more and more core functions are getting knocked out each day. That said, this is a full rewrite, so donβt expect Barry Allen-level speeds just yet. π
Since Iβm rebuilding everything from scratch, Iβve taken the opportunity to overhaul the skinning system. In previous versions, a lot of UI objects shared colours and used predefined fonts. The new approach introduces a proper tree structure of UI elements, everything on the display is now its own element. Each one can be independently adjusted in terms of position, font, and colour.
Some elements will have parent-child relationships (like those nested within VFOs), and their positions will still be relative. But overall, this system brings a whole new level of flexibility. The old skinning setup offered decent customization, but often led to layouts that felt a bit "samey." With this update, the layout can be fully reimagined.
Thatβs a bit further down the line though. Right now, my focus is on getting a basic single-VFO RX/TX firmware up and running, with some diagnostic tools included. This will let me (and you, if you're up for experimenting) start poking at the more mysterious GPIOs and hardware behaviors. For instance, I still need to track down the TX filters.
Oh and yes, since we now have multiple radio chips, each VFO will have its own S-Meter. This seems logical, even when monitoring one channel you can see if another channel has activity. If they cross bands you could even tell this while transmitting. Pretty nice.
Thanks again for your patience and support, more soon!
