Listener's questions for Sai Englert
Added 2024-01-22 17:32:17 +0000 UTCSai Englert will be returning to PTO soon to answer your questions regarding the recent episode on his book, Settler Colonialism: An Introduction. As well as taking questions on the history of settler colonialism, Sai is also happy to answer questions on the current situation in Palestine.
As usual, please comment below the line or send your questions to politicstheoryother@gmail.com with "Englert listener's questions" in the subject header. Finally, do watch out for an episode with legal scholar and author Noura Erakat - which will be out later this week - we spoke about South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
Thank you as ever for your support!

2024-02-03 08:35:30 +0000 UTCHi Mohammed, I'm really sorry but we recorded the episode before I received your question. I will send it to Sai nonetheless to see if he'll send a written response - or possibly a brief audio recording. If he does respond I'll send it on to you. Best wishes, Alex

2024-01-30 10:51:40 +0000 UTCTotally fine! I'll give you a 5 star rating on spotify btw - i saw the post about the bots. I've seen other podcasts say this - do kind of wonder who's doing that .... I listen on another platform - so I need to listen to an old show first.

2024-01-30 10:42:12 +0000 UTCHi Mohammed, Sai and I were due to record today but unfortunately for personal reasons Sai had to cancel. We're still planning to do the interview but I don't have a date yet for when we'll record yet unfortunately. Probably not for a few days at least. Best wishes, Alex

2024-01-29 12:12:21 +0000 UTCThank you so much for doing this! I just finished Sai’s book and very much looking forward to hearing his thoughts. My question is about how to think about the settler populations in places like the United States. Some claim that settler-colonialism is “complete” in places like North America (which seems to ignore the continued presence of Indigenous struggle), and on the other hand J. Sakai basically equates settlers in the US with Israelis because they are both settler societies despite at least some portion of settlers taking part in movements such as LandBack and for Indigenous sovereignty. What do you think the political and theoretical differences are between these two settler colonial projects as they stand now, and what does that say about how to understand settler populations?

2024-01-24 18:00:42 +0000 UTCDo you think there can be a connection between 'bread and butter' issues on the left in the UK (housing, cost of living, workplace organising) and justice for Palestine? Are there dangers involved in concentrating too much on the former. I'm thinking of bernie sanders pretty poor politics on this issue - I think he initially failed to call for a ceasefire.

2024-01-24 11:59:26 +0000 UTCDoes Sai have any thoughts on the future of settler colonialism for the human species? Does it make sense to consider colonisation of the solar system as a distinctly new form of colonialism? Does he ever think about what the implications might be if humanity were discovered by another intelligent species?
