Richard Seymour on the Houthi militia, Gaza, and a second Trump presidency

Richard returns to answer listener's questions on the history of Yemen and the emergence of the Houthi militia, comparisons made between Israel's actions in Gaza and the Nazi Holocaust, and on the way in which the Trump presidency has influenced the current situation in the Middle East.

Richard Seymour on the Houthi militia, Gaza, and a second Trump presidency

This is going to sound anti-intellectual, but I mean it sincerely—my favorite interregnum episodes are ones where Richard just tells us (leftists, in this case American leftists) what to do. I feel such a lifting of anxiety and fear, like ok it’s fine there is no one to vote for, just concentrate on local organizing, got it. Much appreciated!

At a certain level of uncritical awe, I believed Richard was speaking his mind in the moment, with no suspicion at all that his long multi-paragraph replies were scripted. Slightly disappointed to find out it's not so off the cuff after all. But then again, had wondered if there might come a day when Mr Seymour ran out of words. This now seems less likely if his answers are pre-cooked. Bottom line, big fan of his spiel.

Nice ep. Theological distinctions between Zaydism and Iranian shia is that they dispute the 5th Immam. Saudis are named after their guy Zayd ibn Ali who modern Iranian and Lebanese Shia reject for his brother
