The radicalisation of Russian nationalism w/ Oleksiy Radynski

Ukrainian filmmaker and writer Oleksiy Radynski joins PTO from Kyiv. We talked about the current situation in the city and the popular mood in Ukraine. We went on to talk about Oleksiy's article 'The Case Against the Russian Federation' which appeared in E-Flux magazine. Oleksiy described the key features and history of Russian nationalism and why it is that Vladimir Putin, and the clique around him, repeatedly misunderstand the political realities of Ukraine.

If "polarise positions" is a euphamism for "uncritically publish any story that supports your side of the war" then yeah, I agree, it's absolutely rife. It's just sad to see Alex get caught up in the hysteria. The analysis here has been absolutely the best I've found up until now. I thought this article by Barnaby Raine was very good. I also only just found out he's got Ukrainian grandparents https://salvage.zone/did-somebody-say-imperialism-ukraine-between-analogies/

CO'C, I get his views are well beyond you own particular Overton Window, but war has a tendency to polarise positions. Probably difficult to find a Ukrainian who has a 'Russian' perspective. Sounds like Alex should see if he can get Richard Sakwa on the podcast - he has a broader perspective on Ukraine and Russia than most - and the mainstream media are studiously ignoring him.

Umm. WTF was that? Easily the least nuanced interview you've ever done. Putin deserves a kicking, but that was a cartoonishly potted history of the last 20 years. If you can't see through the miasmic tubthumping of (understandably biased patriotic solidarity) best to wait until the smoke clears. Seriously bad interview. I haven't heard anything so bad since.... since... Well actually not since Aaron Bastani interviewed Francis Fukuyama - but you get my point I hope.
