Added 2022-01-19 10:58:05 +0000 UTCSebastian Budegn will be returning to PTO to respond to your questions on the recent episode on Eric Zemmour. As well as questions on Zemmour, please feel free to send in questions on French politics and the upcoming presidential election more generally. If you have a question then please comment below, or email politicstheoryother@gmail.com with 'listener questions' in the subject line. I can't promise to ask every single question, but will do my best to select the best ones. Thanks as ever for supporting the show!

Politics Theory Other
2022-01-31 14:58:27 +0000 UTCThere are some suggestions that Valérie Pécresse is the candidate most likely to beat Macron in the second round of voting. How much would you agree with that idea? Is there much difference in policy platform between Macron and Pécresse?

2022-01-24 14:00:10 +0000 UTCGiven the capitulation of Mitterrand in the early 80s was & is such a crucial strategic defeat for the democratic left, have any French thinkers since come up with interesting or persuasive ideas for how a radical left reformist government would face down the same challenges in our time? Did the Sanders or Corbyn movements (at their height, when they could plausibly have formed governments) precipitate any critical reevaluation of the early Mitterrand years, and other paths that could have been taken?

2022-01-23 13:00:14 +0000 UTCWould love to hear hear what is the ideological inspiration for Zemmour. Are there others within the European politics that he looks to align with? I read in the Danish press that the Danish migration policies have inspired him. Is that right?

2022-01-19 11:27:06 +0000 UTCAs someone who is studying the political life of undocumented migrants in Paris (undergrad dissertation), I’m interested what might be the potential consequences for undocumented migrants if Zemmour comes to power, or if macron is pulled towards right wing populist anti immigration policies as a way of consolidating his right flank
