Is support for the Conservatives finally starting to erode? w/ Andy Beckett

Andy Beckett joins PTO to talk about the recent Conservative and Labour Party conferences and whether the supply chain and fuel crises might finally undermine support for Boris Johnson's government. We also chatted about why Keir Starmer seems to have made so little effort to make political capital out of the government's current difficulties.

Comments

The idea that Michael Foot made a political mistake in backing the Falkland's War seemed wrongheaded to me. Apart from the fact that Argentina was run by a military dictatorship, Foot was an integral part of the Nuclear Disarmament campaign and I can well imagine how his weakness would have been savaged during the 1983 general election in that context. Labour might well have ended up in third place behind the SDP/Liberal alliance had Foot not summoned up his 'Guilty Men' past of opposing appeasing militaristic regimes in 1982.

This was very interesting, thanks! My only side-comment if you like (not snide comment I hope) is that we should firstly remember at all times, The Labour Party Cannot Save Us. That should never be forgotten.
