Listener questions: Paul Rogers on the aftermath of the Taliban's victory
Added 2021-08-18 14:01:35 +0000 UTCInternational security expert Paul Rogers will be returning to PTO to respond to listener questions on the situation in Afghanistan and the implications of the Taliban's victory. Topics we might touch on include: how the Taliban will govern Afghanistan, the human rights implications of their victory, the UK and European responses to American withdrawal, the failure of Western intelligence, and what the defeat means for American prestige. If you'd like to put a question to Paul on these or any other aspect of the situation then please comment below, or email politicstheoryother@gmail.com with 'listener questions' in the subject line. I can't promise to ask every single question, but will do my best to select the best ones. Thanks as ever for supporting the show!

I was curious he mentioned that he thinks terrorism in west will increase. It seemed that general violence and chaos in 2015 inspired terrorism but what does he think was the cause of terrorism and will cause it in future?

What sort of resistance will there be to Taliban rule from Afghanistan's non-Pashtun population, especially in the North and East?

2021-08-18 15:47:00 +0000 UTCHow much of the "surprise" experienced by the western intelligence community is feigned in an attempt to reduce public backlash? It seems like neither the Afghan government nor the intelligence community at large could have been caught so off guard by the swiftness of the Taliban's victory.
