CANCELLED: April 9th Meetup, Volente, TX, 1 - 3:30pm CDT
Added 2024-02-22 16:22:16 +0000 UTCUnfortunately, I have to cancel the post-eclipse meetup as I won't be able to make it down to Texas. Due to the unpredictability of weather with eclipse chasing, my plan has changed. I currently plan to be either in New England (first choice) or Indiana/Illinois (backup) for the eclipse. Since neither of these locations are close enough for me to make it to Volente, TX by 4/9, I've made the hard decision to cancel the event. I hope you understand.

2024-02-26 21:51:57 +0000 UTCAnyone headded to Austin may be interested: 1) Getting flights is no problem, but there are no rental cars to be found. I contacted seven companies in and around Austin. I changed flight to Houston, where rentals are as low as $65/day. 2) I asked the Austin Astronomical Soc. If I could join them for the observation. Here are responses and suggestions: AAS will be participating in two organized events. One is at Pedernales Falls State Park and the other at a private site north of Lampasas. Unfortunately, both events are booked to capacity. You'd want to get on the west side of Austin at the very least. I know that many hill country towns are planning large festivals. You could check websites for Johnson City, Blanco, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Burnet, Llano, and Lampasas.
