Communiqué #1
Added 2019-06-17 16:53:36 +0000 UTCDear PTO supporters,
First off, a huge thank you to all of you for your support - the show simply couldn't happen without you. When it was launched a little over a year ago the show wasn't remotely sustainable and was started with the hope that over time it might gain enough support to be viable. As things stand, the show is only just about scraping by, so your continued support really is extremely important and appreciated. Secondly, an apology - I had intended to write a regular email to supporters, but the amount of time it takes to write, record and produce a weekly show has often meant that tasks that aren't absolutely essential to getting new episodes out have tended to fall by the wayside. However, from this month I'll be sending a monthly email with news on upcoming shows and to solicit your suggestions on new guests and topics.
And so, here are some shows that are coming up over the next few weeks and months:
Christopher Connery on his New Left Review article on neoliberalism in China and the legacy of the Tiananmen Square protests:

Josie Mitchell on the Green New Deal. You can read Josie's latest article for New Socialist here:

Natasha Lennard on Essays on Non-Fascist Life:

Quinn Slobodian on Globalists: The End of Empire and the Birth of Neoliberalism:
http://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog.php?isbn=9780674979529
There are already quite a lot of interviews with Quinn on Globalists available, but our conversation will concentrate on the chapter on the European Union.
Natascha Uhlmann will be making the case for Abolishing ICE:

Kojo Koram returns to the show to chat about race and the war on drugs:

Also returning is Richard Seymour who will be discussing his new book, The Twittering Machine:

Finally, Lea Ypi will be chatting to me about the prospects of progressive reform of the EU. You can read a recent article by Lea here:

If you have suggestions for guests and topics please do reply here or via the email account: politicstheoryother@gmail.com
Finally, some exclusive episodes that only patrons will have access to are also in the works (as is a second season of Joana Ramiro's #RedHacks - conversations on neoliberalism in the modern world) more news on that soon!
Once again, thank you for your support!
Alex

2019-07-30 10:26:34 +0000 UTCGood shout Andrew - I need to listen to that. I previously tried to get Helen on the show but we weren't able to work it out with our schedules at the time.

2019-07-30 10:18:42 +0000 UTCMolly Smith and Juno Mac would be great to talk about the politics of sex work. I think the battle over the fundamentals of what constitutes personhood is more prominent right now and it will determine who is included in politics and policies of the near future, with the moment being an apparent paradigm shift. You can see this playing out across areas including LGBTQ+ rights, particularly trans rights, contemporary feminism, future of work, immigration/borders, types of response to the climate crisis, etc. They have a brilliant critique and are really good at articulating the ideas and arguments.

2019-07-30 10:17:47 +0000 UTCThank you Jane! These are all excellent suggestions - hopefully I'll be able to make some of these happen. Would absolutely love to get Sophie and Phil back on the show. Thank you for listening and for the feedback! :)

2019-06-21 18:48:00 +0000 UTCThis is all very good news (especially about Richard Seymour). I'm glad Quinn Slobodian will be concentrating on Europe as this is very much on my mind currently. Also, the Novara FM show he did was so good that I was left thirsting for more. I would also like to see Aaron Bastani invited on to discuss FALC as I see it being misrepresented and approached in a supercilious sort of way that upsets me terribly. Another idea I had was for Phil BC and Sophie Lewis to come on the show and discuss something, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was now. And then there's Jack Frayne-Reid, with whom it would be fascinating to hear you talk about the Reel Politik project. I promise not to reply at this length in future. Oh dear ... Thank you, AlexX
