Hey All!

Congrats to #TeamBunny.  You guessed right!  Haha.  Whether it's for Easter or the Year of the Rabbit... there's no time like the present for this little Bunny!

This design has been quite a challenge to figure out, and I'm excited to share it with you all.  It occurred to me that I could use the same techniques I developed in my pre-supports to make a model where one body part could pre-support another.  This somewhat frees it up from having to "lay" on the print bed, and opens the door for other fun design options.  Once printed, you just have to wiggle the joints to break the small contact points and free up the articulation (see video).  Oh... and this design in particular lent itself to a print-in-place head, so no snap-fit needed!
Please watch this Video on the best way to free up the joints!

Happy Printing!
Matt

Pictured Models are printed in...

3D PRINTING SETTINGS

Here is a quick video showing the best methods for "cracking" the joints free: Bunny Rabbit - Cracking the Joints: https://youtu.be/UYcgbHcd_y8

Some members of testing group successfully printed this model down to 50% scale, but YMMV.

That's really awesome though. I would love to see your little guy. I haven't tried using that setting yet.

Lioness2000

Awhhhh!!! I love him! :)

Lioness2000

I am loving this design. Tried it with fuzzy skin and it looks great. Till I tried to move things. Fuzzy doesn’t work well with articulated joints. Anyone figure out a way to do fuzzy skin without the joints being fuzzy? Working on a bambu and using that slicer.

Terri Trōtter

Same issue with the left arm and left leg joints not loosening .

Scott

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I’ve heard that from a few people. I’m working on an update for that now. Just doing some test prints. Should be out soon!

MatMire_Makes

I printed 2 at 80% and everything is great except the left shoulder joint wont loosen broke one arm trying to loosen it. I tried on a different printer and same issue. just the left shoulder joint.

cheryl banman

i have printed two bunnies and they came out awesome thank you

Jason P English

That one is hand painted. It's not a multi color print.

MatMire_Makes

Do you have the 3mf file for the brown/white that you show on discord?

MakersChoice

Hi! Sorry you’re having a hard time with it. Can you send me some pictures so I can see if there’s something I can do to improve it? matmire.makes@gmail.com

MatMire_Makes

every bunny i print either one or both front legs break off

Kelly Rapley

Oh no! Can you send me pics? MatMire.makes@gmail.com

MatMire_Makes

I love this bunny but it doesn’t love me. Had two snap right above the shoulder joints 🥺

Cassie

Here is our time-lapse for the bunny. Did a nice pink so my wife can give it away for Easter. Kind of bugs bunny style I took the little time to paint the mouth area white. https://youtu.be/FJSf9B1Eicg

Frostbit Shadow

I'm in the same boat. As a proof of concept thing it is kinda cool. As a clean print it doesnt fall in line with the other models.

Dave Hart

Printed a few in cookiecad, there's just too many spots that touch (support) other parts and makes for a lot of cleanup if you don't want sharp spots. I mean its a cool idea having the model print like this, but there are some pitfalls as well. maybe its just me.

Chad Presson

I printed one and it came out well - head was definitely tough to break and thought I'd snap the entire piece off. Luckily it worked :)

Sean John

That definitely shouldn't happen. Would you mind emailing me some pictures so I can get a better idea of what might have happened? matmire.makes@gmail.com

MatMire_Makes

I did a print at 75%. Only the head came out nice. Rest just broke off on touching it.

Marco van Dam

Any chance you are using Cura and have "union overlapping volumes" unchecked? That would make the head connection very light. I'm working on a fix that would make that unnecessary, but for now that setting needs to be on.

MatMire_Makes

Great model but I've had two heads come off when trying to free the head. Wonder if it could be beefed up somehow?

Jack from Layer Makes

I love it!

MatMire_Makes

I got a little carried away... https://www.pinterest.com/pin/1045890713441012690/

Alexander Ramaker

I think 40%. I tried a 30% on the Bambu X1 but the elbows fused. Definitely pick strong filaments for attempting that small.

MatMire_Makes

What is the smallest size anyone has successfully printed?

Terri Trotter

I think this one was around 11-12 hours because I slow down the outer wall speed and printed the eyes in a different color. A single color print with those same print speeds would be about 9 hours.

MatMire_Makes

curious how long it took to print on the bambu?

Kellie

I Printed one overnight on a Ender 3 S1 Plus in Duramic Marble Pla. Joints were a little harder to get apart then your video but it came out great!

John Michael

big feets are cute! ...and help him hold himself up. :)

MatMire_Makes

I emailed you pics, they broke in the exact same spot

Johnny Wilson

I see. Silks can be super brittle, that’s why I push those joints inward toward the chest before trying to twist them. That helps avoid torsion stress to the layers. I show how I do this in the demo video that I linked in the post.

MatMire_Makes

Yes it was Amolen silk rainbow filament. I just barely moved them and they both snapped off in the same place close to the shoulders

Johnny Wilson

Both front legs snapped right off and I was using 25% gyroid infill

Johnny Wilson

I'm printing one right now, so far so good. I'm 85% done with the print and it's looking amazing so far

Johnny Wilson

Oh no! You can email me pictures. matmire.makes@gmail.com

MatMire_Makes

I printed this and all looked nice until the head fell off. It looks like it was not actually connected. How can I send you a picture of this.

Jared Eggleston

I printed the little guy in 100mm Z. Is there a reason the front paws are big, like he is wearing boxing gloves :-)

Roberto Mello

Just finished printing it, and I love it! It printed really well. And all of the joints freed up nicely.

Kayla

The video you posted is for the Axolotl Head.

Jason Mooney

The right rear leg wouldn'y break free, and twisted off

Jason Mooney

Mat's stuff has historically been really easy to paint because of the clean sculpting. I dunno how needed it really is when it only takes a few minutes to do it. and the majority don't print dual colors.

Jazzy Plz

I decided to try another max size for the Bambu, just a single filament. It will take over 14hrs.

Jason Mooney

Hey! I was wondering if you would be willing to share your Bambu 3mf files going forward? Almost nothing to paint on this little guy, but maybe on more complex models? Anyway, you could just save it along with the STL in the download folder. Some other content creators have started doing it (since Bambu is taking over!!) and its handy to open it ready to go without either of us doing more work. Thanks!

TheArtifactWorkshop

I started a little behind schedule, but I have this adorable rabbit started. https://www.twitch.tv/cooltechdesigns. 11hr31m for the colored details, 7h46m for just the eyes colored. Using CookieCAD Unicorn for the body, silk red for the irus, and a nice dark super glittery purple for the pupil. Almost forgot white for the bushy tail.

Jason Mooney

Mines already hit the printer first layer looking good

Justin Marino

So cool my wants the head for magnets please

Mathew Pini (Prints by Pini)

So amazing!! Can you make a version with antlers??!?

Laying Layers

Some members of testing group successfully printed this model down to 50% scale, but YMMV.

Stephan Langer

Can this model be scaled down or haven you not tried that? :)

Jordan Dukeman

That's Ziro Macaron! I put a link in the post

MatMire_Makes

What’s the filament you used? Great Easter colors.

R&D 3D Printing

Oh my gosh. I joined your Patreon this morning because my son loves the axolotl we printed so much…but he is obsessed with bunnies (he’s 6). You just made his day (week, month, etc). Thank you!! (He also said “when is he going to do an aye aye, kids are never satisfied).

Courtney

So, when do we get the zombie version? Or maybe a Donnie Darko edition 🤣🤣 all kidding aside, looks like a fun print!

Mike Sprague

This is some next level insane modeling!! 😍😍😍 Looks awesome man!

Katsu's Dojo 3D
