Life Beyond II: Behind the Scenes

A patreon-exclusive look behind the curtain to see how I made Life Beyond 2. There was a lot to talk about, so I opted to give a brief glimpse into each step of my process, from the initial concept, to visual effects, music, sound design, edit, and mix, including a detailed breakdown of how I made one of the museum interior shots. For those looking for a detailed breakdown of one of my music tracks, be sure to check out behind-the-scenes from chapter 1 here, where I give a walkthrough of the intro track: https://www.patreon.com/posts/behind-scenes-of-32226277

Enjoy, and feel free to ask any follow-up questions.  More updates next week.

Peace and love,

Awesome work

Jay Cole

Incredible, that you have such great skills in so many different things and put off such a brilliant and huge project, normally over 20 people are working together. Inspiring!

Gerald Peter

What can i say, brilliant. Thank you for sharing such process, so inspiring

I was impressed enough with just the movie itself... Great job!

Dude, thanks!

Thank you Scott! I frequently use the 8K star maps that you can download from this page: https://www.solarsystemscope.com/textures/

John Boswell

This was wonderful, thank you for putting this together. It's amazing to see all the work that goes into making these videos. Question, what do you use to make your starfields? Like the stary sky in the exterior shots of the museum, do you use real images or do you make them yourself from scratch? Thanks!

tremendous work! Amazing!

Film Crux's sound packs are also really great. High quality.

Thank-you so much, John, for this beautiful gift. This is extremely valuable for people who're striving for any creative path - be it music, film, or writing. Thank-you so much, again. Is it possible to share your Word file for the script? I wanna look at in detail, might wanna do Big History films in the future in your style.

Thanks! Yes, I have heard of RNDR, and I will be looking into it for the next video.

John Boswell

This is such a tremendous work and you are so talented ! Congratulation ! For the rendering, are you considering RNDR ? It is quite useful and cheap for this kind of project. Thank you for sharing all your talent and knowledge !

François Guinaudeau

You are such an incredibly gifted artist! Love to support your work so you don't have to work a "normal" job :D

julian

Wow the amount of work involved to me is astounding and awesome, the movement of sound and film go hand in hand and now I know there had to be a lot of patience with this, thank you this is a beautiful piece of work.

Dave Hunt

Thanks for the inspiration, that’s the thing I much needed this morning. It was really interesting to see some insights on your workflow. I was somewhat surprised seeing you playing on the real piano, and honestly I liked this scene so much.

This is very cool and useful. Though I can't put my finger on exactly why. Perhaps just a sense of professionalism in the sound design I've never seen explored in a VFX BTS. The finished product is incredible.

Lawrence Whiteside

This was incredible to watch, you've inspired me. Thank you so much.

Each sequence has its own project file, but I do re-use a lot of the same instruments across songs to keep some consistency. I bounce down a music and sfx pass from each project file and load them into the edit, then the mix.

John Boswell

Hi John! Regarding music, do you usually manage a single big project in Live with all the tracks and SFX, or you make a different project for each scene? Also, I have seen many audio tracks, so basically you bounce everything before making the final edit? Thank you so much!

Your talent is amazing. I find your process a bit overwhelming. Please keep doing what you do to bring joy and inspiration to others. You are making the world a better place and we desperately need it!

Barry

1 person, 1 PC. one awesome piece of work :)

Dan Thomas

Moi ce que je préfère chez vous, c'est votre poésie.

Amazing work, and so generous of sharing your work process! All sorts of research-creations practices to learn from.

Thank you!

John Boswell

You are incredibly talented MelodySheep, I've watched your videos numerous times each. The research, the editing, the VFX, the music, etc, etc, all comes together so beautifully! Keep at it!

Andrew Fleckenstein

I have a 980Ti and 2080Ti, 64GB RAM, i7-5820K CPU. Built back in 2016... time to build a new one! Waiting on the 3080s to become available.

John Boswell

I'm amazed you were able to render this whole thing on one PC, what are your specs?

Prejudice Neutrino

Genius!
