PATRON UPDATE: Sega Saturn shenanigans, future changes to Lordly Caliber tier rewards

Hey folks, figured this would be a good time for the sorta-monthly-but-not-really update.

As mentioned in a previous update, I'll be taking a small break from Ultima to do a video about some RPGs on the Sega Saturn. Think a series of smaller reviews ala the 3DO video. The games I'll be covering in this video run the gamut from well-loved cult classics like Panzer Dragoon Saga, to obscure, untranslated Japanese RPGs, to games that are widely considered to be terrible, such as Virtual Hydlide.

I think it'll make for a pretty fun & interesting video. More importantly, it's kind of a nice palate cleanser between Ultimas. This video will be a bit longer than usual, and because of the number of games I'm playing, it'll also take a bit longer than usual. I'm leaving for 10 days in the summer, so I'm REALLY hoping to have the video out prior to that (before the end of July). Rest assured, I'll be working on it regularly 'til it comes out. The Ultima madness will resume afterwards.

On another note, I wanted to fill everybody in on something I've been cooking up. I've kind of spitballed as far as "bonus videos", podcasts, etc. are concerned, looking for a format that works. As an avid Video Game Music Enjoyer™, I thought that it might be cool to speak to some of my more learned musician friends about video game music in a conversational setting. I've spent the last little while picking up recording equipment and hunting down """studio space""", and I think we're just about ready to give it a shot.

That said, this is also a soft announcement about a change to Patreon tiers. I've been trying to find ways to cut down the length of credits in my videos. Reading out Patron names individually made a lot more sense when it was like, 4 people subscribed to the POLC tier. Now there's DOZENS, which is absolutely awesome, but also makes the whole "read everybody's name" thing less tenable. I'm spending like, two hours in editing on credits alone at this point.

I know most people subscribe to my Patreon as a means to support me, but I prefer there be some value proposition here. That's why once this video game music stuff is off the ground, I'd like my Persons of Lordly Caliber to submit their FAVORITE video game music tracks for me and my cohorts to discuss. It can be a legitimately great tune, it can be the absolute worst thing any of us have ever heard, it can be comedy-centric, it can be in a 16/9 time signature, whatever. I'm a layman, and these fellas I'll be speaking with are both trained musicians (one of whom loves video games about as much as I do). I'll be completely out of my depth. it'll be great!

I don't know exactly what song submission will look like yet, but I just wanted to float the idea now. Our first test-run episode will happen at some point over the next month or so methinks. Frankly, as somebody who incessantly sends my friends video game music... I think it's a way cooler reward. POLC's will still have their names in gold during the credits, the only difference is that I won't be reading them out loud.

TL;DR

Hope this sounds cool. I'm really looking forward to it! It'll likely be hosted on my 2nd channel - by the way, have you seen my review for the RPG Maker game 'Felvidek'? It too is hosted on this 2nd channel. This will also be my streaming channel henceforth, so please subscribe if you enjoy the streams.

I know this is probably too late, but I've always liked the music in Realms in Arkania 3, especially "Sooth My Soul!" https://youtu.be/53WO2xYaxNw?t=138

This might be late, but Motoi Sakurabas mario sports games soundtracks are fantastic. I'd say mario tennis 64, and toadstool tour are his best. some absolute bangers in those games
