Harry Potter: The Mage's Path Chapter 38
Added 2023-05-31 09:55:46 +0000 UTCHi all,
Here’s the next chapter. Harry, Celeste and Hedwig are back in the Nuckelavee dungeon to discover all its secrets.
31st August
Harry was up early on the thirty-first, preparing to enter the Nuckelavee Fairway Dungeon. He wanted some adventure with his familiars before the school term started. As a result of further grinding over the past couple of days, he has finally reached the requirements to advance to a Novice Mage. After completing the quest, he received an additional bonus of ten Magic, giving him a substantial boost to his MP.
First of all, he equipped the Familiar Mage class on his character. The fact that he could now equip two classes at the same time gave him a whole host of new options in terms of strategy and combat that he hadn't had before. Combine that with his familiar's rapid growth, and a golem at his disposal, and he felt more prepared to tackle the dungeon than ever before.
The fact that Celeste and Hedwig had gained so much AP after levelling up so many times meant that he needed to spend them before they left. Having spoken briefly with them, they decided on their attribute distribution. After the changes were made, the two familiars shook as the rapid increase in power affected them. For some reason, Harry didn't have the same problem. Although he had never added so many points at once. Celeste collapsed onto the bed, looking completely out of it, as if she was high on something.
Harry gave them some time to recover and examined their revised parameters in the meantime.

As a result of the two reaching level twenty-three, they were far stronger than the last time they fought together. He hadn't seen much of their expanded capabilities, so they had to take it slowly at first. This was so they could figure out each other's limits, and work on teamwork.
Hedwig would now put all the experience points she earned into her evolution now that she had increased her level substantially. Although he wasn't sure what she would evolve into, he was certain it would have something to do with the wind element. He narrowed down some possible magical animals she might become through his research. It was even possible that she could turn into a thunderbird, but he wasn't sure he was excited about that possibility.
There were several reasons why he felt that way. First of all, his last encounter with a Thunderbird was still indelibly etched into his mind. The power it held to take away lives was not something he would forget easily. There was also the issue that she would eventually grow very large, making it difficult to manage her. She wouldn't be able to perch on his shoulder anymore, and she would attract attention wherever she moved. It was impossible for a Thunderbird to remain anonymous.
"Are you two ready to leave?" Harry asked Hedwig and Celeste. The latter looked more eager than the former about their upcoming excursion.
"I have been waiting for this for way too long," Celeste flew over and landed in his nest of messy hair and grabbed a couple of strands like she was holding some reins. "Come on, minion, giddyup."
Hedwig flew over and landed on his shoulder. While their armour was already equipped, its effectiveness in terms of defensive power was rapidly diminishing. Harry had not used his own equipment lately, except his wand and his Invisibility Cloak. They couldn't keep up with his parameters, so hopefully, he could find better equipment. Although the Fire Cloak spell was awesome, it probably would reach its limits at some point.
He received a small update regarding his wand yesterday. It had already had some changes after the major update, but Gaia made some more adjustments to it. Gaia had actually reconfigured the wand so that it almost felt brand-new. Although it no longer gave a significant power boost to specific branches of magic like before, it could be argued that the change was for the better.
=====
Legacy Mages' Wand | Equipment | Heroic | Grade: 1
Description: A wand belonging to Harry Potter, the Mage. By the power of his magic and his own blood, he grew it within himself. Approximately twelve inches in length, it contains a single thestral tail feather as well as blood extracted from Runespoors. The wand perfectly fits him, and it is both powerful and precise at the same time. It is possible to upgrade this wand in the future but it needs ten level 2 Upgrade Stones.
• It is a unique wand that passively boosts the player's parameters in numerous and unexpected ways. May show signs of sentience and independence if it feels like it is needed.
=====
'Let's eat some Cottage Pie to boost our attributes.' Hedwig reminded him.
"All right, but I need to find or create a better recipe," Harry said, considering the matter. "It is no longer good enough now that we are stronger. Also, I need to expand the types of recipes we have, instead of only those that increase my magic. This will enable us to have more options in specific situations."
Celeste and Hedwig shared their servings, and he ate all of his quickly.
'It doesn't matter how strong we are, or how potent the recipe is, we will have a hard time if we get surrounded by those monsters.'
"Yeah, but we have a plan to deal with them. We have methods to escape as well," Celeste said. "The two of us can fly away if need be. Harry can take care of himself."
"Thanks," Harry said dryly. "Don't worry about me. Think of yourself first."
"Right," Celeste nodded, ignoring his sarcasm.
"Let's go," Harry said. He used ID Creation and transported them to the Nuckelavee Dungeon.
He took a deep breath as he gazed around at the sprawling green fairways. His last incursion was only a brief one, to test Titan. His goal today was to explore the entire map and find every secret, as well as face all the monsters. He still harboured resentment toward the Elite Nuckelavee he encountered. In addition, there was the boss, whose defeat was still uncertain. Regardless, he would like to earn some experience and level up his job further. There was a lot of experience on offer, but he had to be smart about how he obtained it.
Harry cast the Fire Cloak spell and the flames formed a cloak around his body, enveloping him in a feeling of comfort like a warm blanket. He would never be able to get over how cool it looked.
Next, he summoned Titan, and the behemoth appeared in front of him. It greeted him with a wave of its hand, and then he waited for his master to give him instructions. Harry and his familiars discussed the upcoming battle briefly. However, there would not be any deep strategy needed when there was only one Nuckelavee involved.
After walking for a few minutes, the Nuckelavee appeared and charged at them. Titan stepped forward to meet it, and the ground shook when they collided. Titan activated Taunt, and the Nuckalavee focused its attention on the golem. Its long arms reached out and grappled with Titan, trying to pull it to the ground. Since there was a huge disparity between their levels, the Taunt skill lost a lot of its effectiveness. Harry didn't expect it to last long when the rest of them began their offence. That was one of his goals for coming here. Titan needed to gain some levels so the skill became more useful. It would speed up future battles and the experience gained.
In a flash, the three of them sprang into action. Celeste acted first, approaching the Nuckelavee from behind while it pushed against Titan in an attempt to gain dominance. She activated her Enfeeblement skill, which caused her hand to glow purple. Celeste touched its flank, and a symbol was burned into it instantaneously. The Nuckalavee instinctively lashed out with its hind legs when it felt the pain, and Celeste flew up to avoid being hit.
The Nuckelavee's attributes have been lowered by 12% for 36 seconds.
"I weakened it," Celeste called, already preparing her next attack.
It could not be stated often enough how overpowered the skill was and would work even better against higher-level enemies. Twelve per cent was nothing to sniff at, and it may improve even further as it levels up.
Hedwig and Harry fired two spells simultaneously. Hedwig flew above the target and fired off an Air Cutter. Harry summoned a Fire Spear and threw it at Nuckelavee's flank. It screamed in anger as it was hit by the two spells together.
Air Cutter has dealt 20 damage to the target.
Fire Spear has dealt 31 damage to the target.
Nuckelavee HP: 579/630
The Nuckelavee pushed Titan away in a show of overwhelming strength, disengaging from their grappling. Even with its parameters temporarily lowered, its strength was superior to the golems. Harry ordered Titan to reactivate Taunt, but the skill failed this time.
Harry, being the only one on the ground, became its next target. It leapt into the air with remarkable agility and looked to crush Harry beneath its hooves. Just as it was about to land on top of Harry, he warped a few metres away. Although he avoided the attack, he was unbalanced by the tremors caused by the impact.
Thankfully, Celeste's next attack arrived. She summoned a Scourge Whip and lashed out at the human-like torso and head on top of the horse. The attack cracked loudly as it struck its back.
Scourge Whip has dealt 22 damage to the target.
Nuckelavee HP: 557/630
Hedwig's next attack followed soon after, dealing more damage to the Nuckelavee. Titan showed some independent thinking, as it ran at its opponent, winding up and releasing a huge punch to its flank. The Nuckelavee screamed as it tumbled to the ground, its legs flailing.
Harry used the opportunity to throw two more Fire Spears in tandem, and it struck its underbelly.
Fire Spear has dealt 30x2 damage to the target.
The bleeding effect has been triggered.
Bleeding has caused 10 damage.
......
Nuckelavee HP: 499/630
In the ten seconds that followed, the bleeding effect removed a hundred HP. The three of them continued to pummel it with spells. The monster's HP fell rapidly, and it was below half health before it used its arms to leverage itself back on its feet.
The fight was already over, however. Titan taunted it again, leaving the others free to whittle its HP down to zero. The Nuckelavee released a final scream before falling to the ground.
The Nuckelavee has died.

"That was an excellent fight," Harry grinned, feeling an adrenalin rush. There was nothing like a battle to get the blood pumping.
'A commendable first attempt. Although, our team work needs improvement. Hedwig lectured.
"That's what we are here for," Harry agreed.
"Let's loot the target," Celeste said excitedly.
Harry decided not to harvest the Nuckelavees. He would only miss out on one specific material, which wasn't that important until he found an actual use for it. Reaching down, he touched the corpse and looted it. The corpse disappeared, leaving behind some loot. This time he was extremely lucky and received all four possible loot. In addition to the guaranteed five hundred pounds, he received the Nuckelavee tongue and hoof, and the Sea Essence.
"Let's plan our next step," Harry said, opening the map function. Looking at it, he could clearly see the parts uncovered from the first time he explored the dungeon. Over half of the map was still obscured, and he was sure it was hiding plenty of treasure. He recalled the chest from the last time he was here, which he had left behind since he didn't have the key to unlock it.
"In order to solve the Nuckelavee herd problem, we will repeat what the adults did last time and lure the Nuckelavees down a narrow chute," Harry explained. "Celeste, you will be the key component to the success of this plan. I need you to separate the herds into smaller groups and lead them into the trap."
"Leave it to me," Celeste smirked.
"Remember to use your Shadow Cloak perk if you get into trouble," Harry reminded her.
Celeste scoffed, "This is not my first rodeo."
"Yeah, yeah. Give me some time to build the trap. It will take a lot longer than it took Dumbledore."
Harry came prepared. He didn't have the ability to raise walls from the ground like Dumbledore, but he could transform preexisting objects into solid stone walls suitable for his needs. So, he asked Remus to visit a landscaping store and bring a tonne of tall pre-built fences. His Transformation skill was now good enough that he had no trouble transforming them into stone walls. Although their size was daunting, the materials involved were very simple, so it lowered the requirements.
Harry instructed Titan to plant the fences into the ground, around a large pool of water and build a chute leading to it. It may seem like a waste of time since the structure would be destroyed once he left the dungeon, but it was the safest approach. He had plenty of time, so he didn't need to rush. The only downside, though, was that he couldn't use ID Escape to escape a dangerous situation, or he would have wasted a lot of effort.
Harry switched the Familiar class out for the Alteration class and started transforming the fences into stone walls. He put a lot of magic into each one so they would last a full twelve hours. The only problem was that he had to meditate after every two sections of the fence. It took him three hours to do the lot, and the wall wasn't nearly as long or robust as Dumbledores, but it would serve his needs. If he wanted to explore the dungeon properly, he needed to eliminate as many herds of the Nuckelavees as he could.
At least he got another level in his Transformation skill for his efforts. He was left with nine hours to kill as many Nuckelavees as he could before he would have to repeat the transformation process again.
"Okay, I'm ready," Harry said to Celeste from his position atop the wall.
Celeste flew away to find her first target, and Harry mentally prepared himself. While he was confident it would work, he still had some fears from the last time the Thunderbird attacked. Although he didn't think it could reappear, the images from that day still affected him enough that it was difficult to think rationally.
Harry watched as Celeste led a pair of monsters back towards the chute. As soon as they entered the chute, Titan appeared from the side and blocked the entrance. The solution seemed easier to Harry than creating a gate and a mechanism to control it.
"Let's go," Harry roared, as the pair of monsters became stuck between the pool of water and Titan.
<====({owo})====>
Approximately nine hours later, Harry called a halt and ordered everyone to take a break. He climbed down the wall before it could transform back into a normal fence. Celeste, Hedwig and Titan joined him in sitting on the ground. He pulled out some food and water from his inventory and handed them to his familiars. The three of them ate their meal silently. They had just participated in a lengthy grinding session, which left them mentally exhausted, so they had no desire to speak.
They killed over thirty Nuckelavees in that time period. It was a fantastic achievement, considering they had to often stop to meditate to recover their MP. To keep the experience distribution even, he had all of them participate as much as possible in each fight. Titan got a surprising amount of experience simply by walking up the narrow chute and pushing the Nuckalavee into the pool of water. Harry still got a lot of the experience, but since there was so much coming their way, Celeste and Hedwig couldn't complain.
They didn't have any trouble with any Nuckalavees, except one energetic one that almost leapt over the wall. Fortunately, Titan was close enough and grabbed its back legs in time, slamming the monster to the ground. They had cleared the immediate surroundings of monsters, and Celeste would have to travel further afield to find more. He estimated that there must be around a hundred of them in the dungeon, so it would still take some time to clear them.
As a result of killing so many of them, he had completed the monster's data entry. He didn’t receive the monster data last time because the adults contributed the most to the fight. Now that he and his familiars were doing it alone, he received the data and unlocked two new pieces of equipment for the loot pool.
The first piece of equipment was called the Nuckelavee Bracers. It had a ten per cent chance of dropping, and he obtained it after killing his twenty-third Nuckelavee. Its primary function was simple. It gave him limited access to the Strength attribute as long as had it equipped. The human race did not normally have access to the attribute. It had a flat bonus of thirty Strength, which could not be underestimated. There were potential uses for it, such as in a physical fight. He may find himself in a situation where he doesn't have access to his magic, in which case it may save his life.
The second piece of equipment was called a Sea Vessel, but he had no clue what it was for. It only had a one per cent chance of dropping, and he had not been lucky enough so far. If he continued to grind the Nuckelavee enough, it would only be a matter of time before he obtained it.
After resting and eating more Cottage Pie, Harry got to work and began the laborious task of transforming the fences again. Once that was finished, Celeste flew off to find more Nuckalavee. She headed east onto another fairway this time, and it was located close to the sea. The eastern side was the least explored area of the entire dungeon, so Harry told her to be cautious. Who knows what nasty surprises await her? It was lucky that the Nuckalvee were relentless in their pursuit, and didn't seem to have an aggro range. Otherwise, their tactic may not have worked.
After another twenty hours of repeating the same thing over and over again, Harry determined that the only normal Nuckalavee that remained was in the herd near the huge watering hole. This is where he found the survivors from before and was part of the herd that contained the Elite Nuckelavee. There was also the boss to the north, but he was saving that for last. It looked like his method of luring Nuckelavee was finished for now, as he didn't want to alert the Elite monster by trying to draw out the herd surrounding it.
Everyone had earned some substantial experience for all their hard work, but they needed some sleep. They had been at it for over thirty hours, and they were reaching their breaking point. It wouldn't take long before they started making simple mistakes due to fatigue. He had set aside fifteen real-world hours to conquer the dungeon, which meant forty-five hours inside the dungeon. So, they would still have a few hours left after they got eight hours of sleep. It should be plenty of time to finish exploring and killing the rest of the monsters.
Harry knew his absence would be noticed in the castle, but it wasn't the first time he disappeared for hours on end. Everyone assumed that he was exploring the castle.
Harry set up a magical tent within a grove of trees just off the fairway and entered to rest. He purchased it along with the one he got for Sirius. It was the right piece of equipment to get some serious exploration done and not have to worry about a safe place to sleep.
The tent wasn't the most expensive or luxurious tent that he found in Wiseacres, but it more than suited his needs. With plenty of Undetectable Extension Charms, the tent inside was enormous. It featured two bedrooms, a dining room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a living room with a study attached to it. The furniture was all very comfortable, and the beds in the bedrooms were king-sized, leaving him plenty of room to spread out. It was easy to set up as well, as it only required a tap of his wand. Everything inside would remain as it was and wasn't damaged when the tent was shrunken down into a small pocket-sized square.
This was a remarkable demonstration of rune enchanting. It felt like something that was an excellent example of what magic could do when wizards put their minds to it.
Harry headed straight for his room and collapsed into his bed. He was asleep within a minute.
<====({owo})====>
Eight hours later, Harry was awake again and eager to finish the dungeon. He took a moment to look at the experience everyone had accumulated. It wasn't a priority for him to spend his experience right now, but Titan needed some levels urgently to be more effective in battle.
Harry accessed his menu and looked at Titan's attributes. After spending its experience in its cache, Titan levelled up to level thirteen. It looked like its experience curve was similar to Celeste and Hedwig.

Titan's HP and Defense had increased dramatically, but he was disappointed that the golem had not learned any new skills. Harry had to remind himself that it was not a real being, so its growth potential was limited. He couldn't complain about it because it served a purpose and was effective at its role. If he ever needed more variety, there were more golems out there to discover.
"Are we all ready for the final sprint to the finish line?" Harry asked.
"Of course. Are we going to tackle the elite monster and the boss before exploring the dungeon fully?" Celeste asked.
"Yeah. I suspect that the key needed to unlock the treasure chests lies with one of these monsters, so it would be pointless to explore first."
'Then let's take care of the elite mob first.' Hedwig decided.
"Yes boss," Harry and Celeste said simultaneously, laughing.
Harry resummoned Titan after they left the tent. He was glad it didn't take any MP to summon the golem, otherwise, his goal would have been much more costly. He wouldn’t use Titan in the upcoming fight, as it would probably be overwhelmed by the herd of Nuckelavee. He wasn't sure if Titan would be destroyed if its HP fell to zero, so he wasn't taking the chance. However, he would keep it around until that point in case they encountered something along the way.
Following the map, they headed straight for the Elite Nuckelavee's location. They discussed their method of dealing with the Elite Nuckelavee and its herd as they walked. In Harry's opinion, the easiest and most effective answer was to create a raft as the survivors had done before. The Nuckelavee could not reach his position in the middle of the pool, so he could attack with impunity. The only problem is that it would be too far away to land most attacks, as the target would have time to dodge. Unless he warped to get close, attack, and retreat before the target knew better. It was a cheap tactic and would cost a lot to use, but safe.
Once they were close to the herd, Harry put Titan away and sprinted towards the pool of water. The Elite Nuckelavee spotted him first and screamed to alert his companions. The entire herd turned and looked in his direction, and began sprinting towards him. It was too late, however, as Harry got close enough to the pool to warp to the middle. He landed with a splash in the water.
Summoning his wand, he took out a spare section of fence and transformed it into a decent-looking raft that floated on the water. Climbing aboard, he released a sigh of relief that the first part went according to plan.
Celeste and Hedwig followed him through the air and landed next to him. The herd circled the pool of water, staring at him with their single creepy red eyes.
“Okay, the first part was successful," Harry murmured. “Now comes the tricky part.”
Harry squinted at the Elite Nuckelavee. There was a distinct metallic sheen to the monster's body, which he recalled vividly. This was the second time he had examined its parameters, but he had done it before the update, so he examined it again.

Description: An elite version of the Nuckelavee. The Nuckelavee Knight has a dominant presence that commands its own herd. Moreover, their parameters can be passively enhanced by its very presence. It's much more lethal than its counterpart but still has the same weaknesses. Do not sneak around this monster, as it is highly perceptive and can spot a target from a long distance away. It’s only inferior to the Nuckelavee Stallion, which is a whole other level of danger.
=====
Harry sucked in a breath. The elite version was far more dangerous than a normal Nuckelavee. Its HP was insane, and it would take some time to reduce it to zero. Even here, he wasn't sure if he would be protected from its plague attack. Its range was long. He would need to be prepared to dive into the water if it attacked with its foul breath. Better to be safe than sorry.
At least he confirmed it had the silver key on it, so he could unlock the silver chests in the dungeon. He had not looked closely at the previous iteration of its status, so he hadn’t noticed it before.
Now that he had the relevant information at hand, he needed to come up with a game plan. He no longer thought that Celeste and Hedwig would be safe in the air, as they would probably struggle to dodge the breath attack as well. Hedwig may be able to counter it with her wind element, but he wasn't entirely confident of that.
So, what was he supposed to do? Just as he thought that the Nuckelavee Knight stepped to the edge of the pool and opened his mouth.
Harry’s eyes widened. No way! Give me some time to think of a plan at least.
So, what did you think? The next chapter will conclude the Nuckelavee Fairways dungeon, and then it's time for the school term to start.
Thanks for the support, everyone.
Shoutout to my Pro and Hardcore Gamers for the extra support.
