B-B-BONUS: My Thoughts on the Silent Hill 2 Remake Trailer

The SH2 remake is drawing a lot of strong opinions, I don't really agree with what motivates a lot of those.

Yeah, there is simply not information present to make a determination on this. I don't think that a fixed camera perspective is necessary for the horror of Silent Hill - it's not trying to get you with jump scares, it's trying to get you with how awful people are, lmao. If Bloober Team can put the Bluepoint touch on this, it will be fucking awesome. The people who think this game is good because of awkward, clunky controls are... wrong? Yeah, that's the one. The story. art/sound design, Akira Yamaoka - those things are the things that Silent Hill 2 the masterpiece it is. It CAN work in the game's favor, thematically, but I really doubt the designers intended on making a purposefully shitty to use combat system just because James Sunderland isn't a trained soldier. They... just didn't make a great combat system. You can very easily maintain the dread AND have your players feel comfortable maneuvering through the world. The thing I, personally, am worried about is that Konami is NOT Capcom. I don't care for Bloober Team's games on a story level, usually, but mechanically, they're fine - so long as they are not rewriting Silent Hill 2 and are just transferring it into a modern engine and such, I think it's going to be fine. You summed it up perfectly by talking about how it was just lightning in a bottle. PS - I had no idea that people were already drawing so many conclusions from a fucking trailer! Holy lord! This is wild, my dude. If anything, the thing that hit me is that I think James looks a bit like Leon Kennedy's remake.

I've been lucky not to be on social media enough to really interact with this phenomenon happening right now, but I find that kind of outrage to be very exhausting. Hopefully this all winds up being a molehill of a problem we're simply making into a mountain! Also, a pox up on your house for reminding me about the SH Wiki Circumcision guy! I'd successfully forgotten him for 4+ years now!
