X-Men/etc. PCM Sound Improvements

IIRC the game in a cabinet is the same. So many arcade games from this era have terrible audio, particularly when it comes to mixing of PCM and synth audio.

2026-01-23 22:14:30 +0000 UTCNice work, but maybe its just me, but the background music balance in X-Men seems drowned out compared to effects. Don't own an actual X-Men arcade, so I'm assuming this is expected.

2026-01-21 04:58:54 +0000 UTCAfter the last update performed yesterday ... the games of street figther II gran master is many others , are not displayed from the HDMI output . The strange thing is that on a 4/3 LCD monitor you canβt see anything, while before the update you could see it, while with a 2008 sharp LCD TV you can see it even after the update. Obviously the oldest monitor. Another thing, always after the update, even the video capture card does not hook up the video signal but only the audio. I donβt understand what happened.

2026-01-21 03:08:35 +0000 UTCReally great update. Man all these arcade boards all had to do their own special weird things to make it extra hard to preserve decades later :). It's like every board developer was told "ignore all the other arcade boards, just come up with your own custom architecture, use whatever combination of chips you feel like using, make sure the combination has never been used before, and if possible find some unique dsp or ram or cpu no one else has ever used in the arcade and throw that in there also."

2026-01-17 19:48:34 +0000 UTCGood Luck with the save states. Emulators have it easier when it comes to saving progress because its forcing all the tasks into a relatively serial path and resuming that is easier than getting multiple paths back to the same condition to resume where you left off. Consider that X-Men sound chip when in the instructions are you executing just to have the sound on the save resume correctly you described 3 potential branches just in the sound execution chip and that was simplifying it. A proper mid game save restores everything to the moment of the save for resumption. With the parallels in arcades its a lot of effort.

2026-01-17 10:39:13 +0000 UTCThanks for the update. I joined your Patreon five years ago to support work on Capcom games so I'm always happy for focus to go on CPS. I can only speak for myself but I suspect many others feel the same. I've not even turned the MiSTer on for years π€¦π»ββοΈ but I'm happy to add my small donation to your great work.
