Gradius 2: Gopher's Ambition
Added 2025-01-17 10:26:07 +0000 UTCThis week JTTWIN16 beta is expanded to support Gradius 2. This game was originally failing because the scroll settings that affect the sprite location were not applied at the expected time. That caused the game not to detect any collisions so the ship would just have a peaceful travel to the boss scene, and then stay there as you cannot hit the boss. Gladly, it is working now.

History
Released by Konami in 1988. The newly developed super-time fighter Big Piper is now ready to launch in order to protect the mother planet Gradius from the special forces unit Gopher! The game was an official sequel to the arcade version of Gradius, four years after its release, with the board having evolved from the Bubble System to the Twin 16, with more power in every aspect. It was overwhelmingly popular in Japan and won first place in the magazine Gamest as the best arcade game of the year. The graphics and background music were highly acclaimed, and although it is a sequel, the emphasis on a purely powered-up version of the first game, without any unnecessary padding, is the reason why so many players were hooked on the game.
Other Updates
JTALIENS: fixed low drum volume in Crime Fighters
JTVIGIL: fixed sound distortion
JTTWIN16: fixed too low sound in Dark Adventure
The missing version field in Analogue Pocket fields that caused troubles for updaters in the last release is filled now. Updater should work correctly with the new files.

I can't get controls to respond in Gradius II and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. It lets me define the buttons and everything, but nothing happens when I try to use them.

2025-01-23 20:09:27 +0000 UTCBlimey, Gradius 2 is rock hard eh! Is there no way of continuing? I don't see it as something you can enable in the dip switches.

2025-01-21 15:41:19 +0000 UTCWow, this is amazing. One of my favorite arcade games and I've played the heck out of the PCE CD version. One of those arcade classics that didn't really have an arcade perfect version out there and now it's playable on MiSTer. Jotego, you (and your employees) are the best.

2025-01-17 16:17:13 +0000 UTCThis is how the Platform files for all of Jotego’s cores have always been. There hasn’t been a change.

2025-01-17 15:41:25 +0000 UTCIs the first Gradius (or Nemesis) available on the Pocket or am I looking in the wrong places for it? Curious because when Jotego mentioned this core a week or two ago, I went looking for the first one to play and couldn't find it.

2025-01-17 14:46:28 +0000 UTCThanks Tyler. I use pupdate but it added JTWIN16 with the technical name unfortunately. That's how I found out :)

2025-01-17 13:16:05 +0000 UTCHi - Is there no MRA file for Gradius 2 in the Mister zip attached to this post? What am I missing :)
Philip Campbell
2025-01-17 13:12:25 +0000 UTCjtbeta.zip is unrelated to ROM downloads. This Patreon does not promote unauthorized ROM downloading.
JOTEGO
2025-01-17 12:46:14 +0000 UTCDo you need a new jtbeta.zip for this? Update all didn't download the rom file.

2025-01-17 12:33:27 +0000 UTCAlso asked via reddit, and will copy any solutions there. https://www.reddit.com/r/AnaloguePocket/comments/1i3eh6z/pupdate_jtbeta_and_jtngpc_license_checksum/

2025-01-17 11:43:13 +0000 UTCI'm not sure why or even if it changed, but I have an easy fix. If you use pupdate, it adjusts all cores to use the "natural" name like "Black Tiger".

2025-01-17 11:42:46 +0000 UTCThank you Jotego and team for your tireless effort and work on these great cores 😊

2025-01-17 11:37:31 +0000 UTCThis is super exciting, thanks for sharing! Sorry to ask this here, can anyone help me? I use Pupdate, and I've got the latest jtbeta.zip in my root folder. Everything works fine for all cores except jtngpc, which constantly shows me: Missing or incorrect License file for the following cores: jotego.jtngpc The snippet of pupdate's run: ------------- Checking Core: jotego.jtngpc 73a563b is the most recent release, checking local core... Local core found: Updating core... Downloading file https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jotego/jtbin/master/pocket/zips/jotego.jtngpc.zip... Extracting... Installing... Updating JT Platform Name... Complete License copied to '/home/username/Private/Games/Pocket/Assets/jtpatreon/common'. Looking for Assets... Already installed: ngpc.rom Already installed: ngp.rom License checksum validation failed. Location: '/home/username/Private/Games/Pocket/Assets/jtpatreon/common/beta.bin' Installation complete. So it regularly reinstalls the jtbeta license for this core, which fails checksum validation every time. Does anyone know why?

2025-01-17 11:12:00 +0000 UTCThank you Jose, great addition to an already awesome arcade library! I have a question about the Platform ison files that are distributed now. I noticed the name of the cores now includes the technical name instead of the "Natural" Core Name. Is that change intended? Also the manufacturer name is always JT FPGA. I am modifying the Platform JSON documents manually but I wanted to bring your attention to this topic in case it's not intentional. Thank you!

2025-01-17 10:37:48 +0000 UTCThank you for your cooperation with this game and platform! I know what I will be playing tonight!
