Beta Key Change

After using the same beta key since January, we are refreshing it. The new one is attached. As usual:

JTS18 core compatible with SEGA System 18

We have the first beta of the new JTS18 core. Shadow Dancer is the first compatible game. The beta seems quite solid after a lot of testing and the game feels great to play. This is a game that pays back your investment. It does not play tricks on you or abuse of random patterns. Hence, it is a game you can master rather quickly. As you know Shinobi and Rolling Thunder are related arcade games.

Another game included in this release is Bloxeed, a Tetris with bombs!

This first game does not use the MegaDrive VDP. All the graphics come from a chipset with basically the same features as the one seen in SEGA System 16B boards. The next core update will feature the interaction between these two video chipsets present in System 18 boards. I will show some examples of how the images from the two chips are merged to produce a more sophisticated image than possible with just one of them.

I would like to thank amoore2600 who loaned this board to me soon after I started this FPGA journey and has patiently waited until now. His board is now the basis of the only available System 18 schematics online and, together with information from other scene developers, the reference for the JTS18 core.

Note that JTS18 is not available for small FPGAs, like MiST and SiDi.

There are three more games we want to support in this core. We are now close to completing it, with maybe just one more beta ahead.

Después de usar la misma clave beta desde enero, vamos a renovarla. La nueva esta adjunta. Como siempre:

Ya tenemos la primera beta del nuevo core JTS18. Shadow Dancer es el primer juego compatible. La beta parece bastante sólida después de muchas pruebas y el juego se siente muy natural al manejarlo. Es un juego que te devuelve la inversión. No te juega malas pasadas ni abusa de patrones aleatorios. Así que, es un juego que puedes dominar con bastante rapidez. Como sabes, Shinobi y Rolling Thunder son juegos arcade relacionados.

Otro juego soportado en este lanzamiento es Bloxeed, ¡un Tetris con bombas!

Este primer juego no utiliza el chip VDP de MegaDrive. Todos los gráficos proceden de un chipset con básicamente las mismas características que el visto en las placas SEGA System 16B. La próxima actualización del núcleo mostrará la interacción entre estos dos chipsets de vídeo presentes en las placas System 18. Mostraré algunos ejemplos de cómo se fusionan las imágenes de los dos chips para producir una imagen más sofisticada que la posible con uno solo de ellos.

Me gustaría dar las gracias a amoore2600 que me prestó esta placa poco después de empezar este viaje FPGA y ha esperado pacientemente hasta ahora. Su placa es ahora la base de los únicos esquemas del Sistema 18 disponibles online y, junto con la información de otros desarrolladores de escenas, la referencia para el núcleo del STC18.

Hay tres juegos más que queremos soportar en este núcleo. Ahora estamos cerca de completarlo, con tal vez sólo una beta más por delante.

Having same issue with Shadow Dancer and Clutch Hitter (assuming all System 18) , feel like it is something I am forgetting. Connected to an Astro City via Jamma edge. All other games appear to be working fine. Tried with 2 mister.ini files (with a couple different settings that I have for when I can't get the scripts to run \ display properly)

Just wondering if Shadow Dancer is set to a unusual refresh rate as this has a flicker / zig-zag image on the CRT TV, sound works OK.

I've also got similar setup (Egret 3 w/ Toshiba Tri Sync and Antonio Villena's Jamma Adapter) and can't get sync with Shadow Dancer. JTS16B works 100% although.

I have a similar setup (MiSTercade to a Sega NetCity cabinet) but the picture doesn't sync, just rolls. No issues with Golden Axe or Altered Beast.

Nope! Just tested all of S16B with no issues. Everything is virtually indistinguishable from the actual System 16 PCBs I have.

I have this same issue. Frequency doesn't seem to be right and doesn't sync. I am playing on a Sega NetCity arcade cabinet.

Do you have more than one mame folder? Maybe MiSTer is reading the jtbeta.zip file from a different folder.

Awesome work Jotego - glad to see System 18 coming along! One concern: Running Shadow Dancer or Bloxeed on a Nanao MS9-29T in a Egret II cabinet via a MiSTercade setup results in a stable image, but there's something wrong with CRT output which some have reported here, even after an update. You can hear a high pitched whine indicating an out-of-range frequency and there is some pixel shifting/blur. I tested this on multiple cabinets and two monitors with the same issue.

Anybody having trouble with system16/16b after using update_all today? It doesn't finish Assembling ROM0 for me. Edit: both of the identical MiSTer setups I have exhibited the same behavior. Reformat/reinstall of SD card fixed the problem.

Thank you. I just tried and it's still scrambled. It's similar to when I run other cores on my crt that are operating at a different hertz.

Thanks for the tip; had to uncheck the "watchdog" stuff in the config before loading the rom but it now works!

Still no sync using a Toshiba Tri Sync monitor. Other than that everything works flawless

The easiest is to use something as pocket ccupdater: https://github.com/mattpannella/pupdate You just need to unzip the jtbeta.zip where the post says and run the updater and it'll install all the jotego cores with roms

I can't play Splatter House for Namco I on pocket; gets stuck at "test program initialize error 0503"; tells me to push a button and then takes me to what looks like a dip switch screen where I then get stuck. Any ideas? All other games work on the core after new beta.bin (I had to put it in jtshouse manually the updater didn't do it for some reason)
