PVM 4eva

Nicolò Pittoni

HDMI on the mister - or AP all the way..

Matt

Mix of CRT and Analogue Pocket

Matt Richenburg

I have mine (Mistercade) in a BigBlue(1) with a Home use only Tri_sync Monitor, from a Fast And Furious Cab, that the new owner wanted converted to LCD for a location, and reliability. So I have a zero burn amazing 27" which barely fits into the big blue.

Andrei Maraklov

hdmi

Jacomo Nanci Hodnik

CRT always

Gabriel Pyron

My MiSTer stays hooked up to my Sony PVM. I never use it with a HD screen.

Polyh3dron

Bury me with my CRTs

Mike V.

I use Pocket with its screen and also Mister where I use either HDMI tv or Jamma cabinet with arcade 15kHz CRT for playing with friends (sometimes alone too, of course). Then I occasionally use rotatable computer HDMI monitor for vertical screen stuff. My default setup is 17 inch VGA screen used with scandoubler. I think VGA screens are very good option, because the image quality / sharpness is good, it is CRT, often has good controls for geometry and the 17 inch screen is "ideal" size and flat(ish). VGA monitors are also not as rare / expensive as good 15kHz screens. Only problems are that not all cores support scan doubling (you can use vga scaler of course) and there is no scan doubling for interlaced content (again vga scaler is an option).

JSwan

CRT what else ! ;-)

FROELIGER

CRT via Jamma and HDMI out to a second monitor for 3-4 player cores

Rob Ross

I want to use a CRT but just haven't gotten add ons for phono plug style and although I own many PC CRT I keep having trouble working out how to get them working right. I bought 3 30" Dell multisync monitors from a furniture store as they were going out of business. But since it hasn't worked for me yet, want Vs reality. been playing HDMI.

Daniel Thomas Stack

Plasma TV for mister fpga and analogue pocket handheld fpga

Both

Juan Jose Velez Ramirez

I have my MiSTer hooked up to both a HDMI monitor and CRT display simultaneously - predominantly I play games on the CRT.

Survivor Films Ltd.

and db15 keep it forever

NonstopXiaowei

retro games must use crt.

NonstopXiaowei

I use only CRT's to get that real retro feeling.

Krisztian Lanyi

I personally use CRT but the HDMI for capturing and streaming to Twitch, as well as for cores that are beyond 15kHz

Markus Kraus

the Emulated systems are crt Systems so regardless of usage the attention to crt should be maximized

Alex Mandic

CRT TV is super important for me for JAMMA, also direct video rgb for crt tvs, and the rt4k on the oled ^^

Mat Azel

CRT output is ideal for a lot of games so I got for that when I can (and otherwise hdmi for convenience)

Kevin Bunch

I love my CRT, but with very good MiSTer shaders you can reproduce a good CRT picture pretty well too.

MiSTer Retro Wolf

I have mine hooked up to large OLED - looks great when you have the correct filter / scanline options dialled-in. My PVM isn't allowed in the living room :)

Arkade_UK

I use a Mistercade connected to a HAS supergun that has a PS1 style video out that is then connected to my CRTs with HD Retrovision component video cable. This gives me much better analog video quality than using a Mister IO board.

m.goomba

LCD/VGA, I got rid of all the old (bulky and high consuming) CRTs time time ago.

Salvador Perugorria Lorente

CRTs, it’s the intended display so unsurprisingly looks the best for games of this era

Dan Doyle

Only use HDMI although I would use CRT if I had room for a CRT in my house.

Matthew Rogers

Let's use the CRTs as long as we have them !

Amador

I use both but I would use crt more if I had more options to do so.

Unlovedhomie

For convenience I generally try out most games on an OLED TV via HDMI, but if I really want to get into the game I use a CRT (with an analogue output going to a mini amp for the sound).

Nick McDonald

CRT always. Games don't look like the original in HDMI, no matter how many filters or masks you apply. Only shaders like Retropie's "crt-curvature" provide a nice look but it's at the expenses of adding extra video lag (due to the video processing).

Santiago Romero

AT the moment soles the Analogue pocket screen. BUT when Analogue pull their finger out their bum and updated the firmware to allow their D.A.C to reused with their Pocket Dock then I'll be using my Sony PVM.

Robert

I am using only CRTs, for Tate arcades i use 90° rotated monitors

Roberto Lari

CRT forever

Juan Diego

I have a CRT in my shed, I just have nowhere to set it up for now 😕

Pixel Cherry Ninja

Give me CRT or give me death

Thayer

Retrogaming is on CRT

Lakhdar Omar

I use arcade cabinets 😀

Rautz

Mi too crt

Tony T

I’m Analogue pocket until I’m done moving.

Hagen's Alley Books

mostly crt but hdmi for vertical games

modgeezer

mostly s-video to a 35" Mitsubishi CRT

theZeroSleep

HDMI screen with VRR exclusively now. Been down the CRT rabbit hole and don't have the time, money, and patience for it any longer. Too many hobbies and too little time.

Rune P

CRT Always. LCD only when using something that won't sync.

Tulio Adriano Cardoso Gonçalves

There is nothing like a high-res 15Khz monitor like Commodore 1084 or PVM's.

Sayit BELET

Analogue Nt mini and Super Nt with DAC on CRT. Analogue pocket on HDMI and pocket screen until DAC support is implemented(will then switch it over to CRT)

Richard Maxey

I do use both on a everyday basis. A 29" consumer CRT, a HDMI TV and the capture card (using a HDMI splitter). It works flawless, as most of the cores presents analog support.

Eric Fraga

Arcade cabinets - so, 29" CRTs!

NEON FM

Mostly CRT by myself, but when friends come over we play in a living room and the HDMI 4K tv is so much more convenient.

DrewtoriousFGC

I mainly use this on my hd tv through hdmi, but I would love to try it on a CRT for a more authentic experience. I just need an adapter or something.

HanJeSu

@JT - Why are HDMI and Analogue Pocket Screen ‘bundled’ together?

Kent Pendragon

I use both, HDMI at home and CRT at my local hideout on an arcade cabinet

Tuxosaurus

I use both. CRT support is crucial

Darren Chell

CRT for MiSTer, software emulation for HDMI because RetroArch shaders are far better at simulating a CRT than MiSTer is. CRTs rule when it comes to motion clarity and are just far better displays for retro gaming.

Basil The Plant

My beautiful LG C2 OLED does a fantastic job. :-D If I feel nostalgic I sometimes hook up my VGA-monitor. I use my CRT screen for the original consoles.

Robbert

Primarily HDMI, but the CRT gets a lot of use too.

Pinya

I really only keep a couple of CRTs around for light guns, the SegaScope 3D glasses, and blended CGA color mixing via the composite our port on old computers...

Johnny Proctor

Hdmi only as my mister is set up in my living room for comfy couch gaming I use crt with my real consoles for legit retro experience. It's why I got mister in the first place to easily game on the main tv.

Rob Jenkins

only CRT!

HAGEN750

CRT should be the focus . Hell to everything else

Mark Saunders

On Blast and Astro City cabs

G Foyle

And yeah, the retrotink does have an HDMI input as well as analog, useful for retro consoles with HDMI mods etc or the mister with direct video

Patrick

rt4k has some great CRT filters and customization for scaling and cropping. video game esoterica did a video about it if you're curious

Patrick

i do use hdmi when i don't have a crt around. I love the mister because of the good crt experience

Andrea Bogazzi

I use CRT unless I need to do update all, which doesn’t work when on my crt for some reason

David Clarke

What advantage does that provide you? I thought the Tinks were for connecting non-HDMI stuff to HDMI screens.

Golan Klinger

I use both CRT and HDMI screens, but where I can I prefer CRT

maurizio benassi

I have 3 misters. Mistercade in my NeoGeo cab. Mister on my Sony 310 crt. Mister (dual ram) on my main tv setup. It’s a mixed bag. :/

Ronald Dean

I use CRT primarily, but I also have a small HDMI panel set up for cores that don’t like CRT or I want to play something in PAL.

ruiner9

I would love to use it on my crt but I don't yet have a DAC to do so.

Icehawk

Nice! I wish I could afford a Retrotwink 4K

Jockel

2x MiSTer CRT—analog and soon to be analog pro on my second unit—as the lord (and arcade devs) intended ;) Pocket exclusively for portable until DAC support sometime never

Trey S.

HDMI direct video into retrotink 4k

Patrick

HDMI but using external scaler via Direct Video

LeoVenon

I had a Sony PVM and sold it before moving. Right after that, the pandemic hit and the prices sky rocketed. CRT's feel like a rich man's game now.

Daniel Vercillo

CRT for the win. ;)

Phil Falco

CRT for original hardware. HDMI for MiSTer.

Johnny Van Cura

I am partial to a good Cathode Ray Tube.

DirtyPair Oj

Wouldn't a CRT be smaller than a big modern lcd tv? Mines only 27"

Rick S.

Crt baby!

Hiddenbyleaves

I go back and forth, so I use both. It's nice to have the big modern screen (especially with the filters and shadow masks people have made), but sometimes you just can't replace the CRT. My TVs are both hooked up and ready to go with the MiSTer, but I'm sure I'm in the minority there.

Tonch

Probably 90% SDR on my consumer CRT

Rick S.

My crt has hdmi

Edward Elzarian

If you have a kitchen island: No, you don't, that's a CRT perch

sixtyfps

I had to ditch the CRT, it got too expensive to move it from place to place.

Darcy McKenzie

CRT and HDMI side by side 🤘

Retro_Brewz

Follow the dream. Spread the word. :) Follow "savetheCRTs" on Twitter.

Mike V.

Most of the time hdmi although I do own 2 14 inch crts, which aren't currently set up due too space issues .

tony bell

CRT all day everyday!!!

Christian Johansson

CRT FTW

ShootTheCore

MiSTer on CRT or Pocket for portable. I never connect the Pocket to the TV (I have the Dock gathering dust), for that, MiSTer is much better.

Mike V.

CRT in my custom built cab.

Paul Murdoch

I guess Retrotink4k counts as HDMI so pretty much all HDMI (Sold the CRT a while ago)

Adrian Lamb

HDMI for me. Apartment living means no room for a CRT

Ian Young

My 20” Sony PVM but I’ve been in love with my analogue pocket + retrotink 4k and 85” OLED combo 🥰

Ron Stratton

Definitely CRT

Isles487

CRTs mostly! Occasionally on the TV with a Tink4K as well as the Pocket

Kuro Houou

CRT support is one of the main reasons I got MiSTer, the way those pixels look on them is magical, also goes well with reduced lag philosophy of FPGA.

Vadim Vaskin

I play via HDMI and Pocket screen. I have a dream of one day playing CRT!

Pixel Cherry Ninja

CRT all day long

Dotexe55

100% CRT, it’s THE only way to play the classics

Brett Nicol

Just the Analogue Pocket Screen. Not really interested in getting a Dock. Would be HDMI also if I ever buy a Mister analog.

Ian Kester-Haney

Me too. You really can't get the full arcade experience without a CRT, and the colors don't pop the same either.

Halla

That's the way to do it!

Halla

I would never have sprung for a MiSTer if it didn't have analogue output.

Brandon Mitchell

Very rarely play on HDMI, almost always play on CRT as the games were meant to be played, but I appreciate the additional features for HDMI for when I do use it, either at a friends house or on vacation. Not everyone has a CRT.

Magus Incognito

I have 4 sega candy cabs and the mistercade rotates between them (yoko and Tate), then another mister hooked up to a consumer crt, and finally the third mister hooked up to a hdmi screen. I have an analogue pocket as well but only use it in handheld mode and not for arcade cores.

Josh Mayer

Pvm and astro city monitor

Juan Antonio Avellaneda

Crt at home, pocket screen on the go

Dominic Ferrantelli

Exclusively CRT

Dandi and Matija

Sony Trinitron at all times.

Bitmaps Retro

crt is the way to go no cheating here

Alexander Stieglmayr

Analogizer support please for CPS1/2 and other cores!!

Stephen

I use an hdmi, i don't really have space for a crt. Though i have one in storage marked for when some relatives downsize their big old house at some point. Hopefully i'll have space by then

John Dawson

I play on CRTs exclusively and I use multiple CRTs depending on the console.

XC-3730C

I have a mistercade so the majority of the time I'm playing fpga cores is on my new astro city cabinet. sometimes i plug it into my pc crt to play as well. but i also have an analogue pocket that i mostly stick to the "built in" native cores that take cartridges. i'd say about 20% of the time i use my pocket i use openfpga cores.

Tiffany Salem

Wow can't believe how many people play on HDMI. I thought the majority would be CRTs. I'm 100% CRT user

Brendan Eddy

Where's the esoteric poll option for "analogue dock connected to RetroTink 4K" lol

samred

Sony pvm!

Cruiser133

Mostly PVM and Mistercade, but also on Analogue Pocket and HDMI sometimes

Kyle Lester

CRT exclusively. A mix of 15 or 31 kHz monitors. About 70/30 in that order.

Johan Smolinski

Right now mostly on the Pocket screen, but I have a Dock and DAC here waiting for the software update to enable CRT support
