Sly Spy

This secret agent was due to visit us last week, but apparently he had a sabotage mission to do first! It took me four days of debugging to find out why the game wasn’t booting up. In the end, it was a single line missing. Once added, the game run without any need for more edits. That’s the world of digital design: one or zero!

If you haven’t played Sly Spy but liked Shinobi, give it a go: it will surprise you. This is a game easy to master, probably the easiest one of the all the Data East titles we have come across so far. And it isn’t this week’s only game: Boulder Dash part 2 is also available as part of the beta.

SEGA System 16 core gets promoted to public release. This is a controversial decision because I still need to iron a couple of things, but it will be easier to update it in the public format.

I have also added the MiSTer vertical crop feature (found in NeoGeo, for instance) to the arcade cores. I’m still updating the files as I have so many cores that it takes my computers a few hours to finish. I will have to leave the computers working over night and upload the files on Saturday morning. Just run the update_all over the weekend and you’ll get them all.

Thanks to Atrac17 and DJHardRich for donating the Sly Spy PCB. We will also desolder two custom chips and send them to Furrtek for further inspection. This is important because the schematics we made have advanced the knowledge on Data East systems but they cannot cover the interiors of these two chips. Whether that will make a difference to the gameplay or not, we don’t know yet. But we will find out.

¡Este agente secreto debía visitarnos la semana pasada, pero aparentemente tenía una misión de sabotaje que hacer primero! Me llevó cuatro días de depuración descubrir por qué el juego no se iniciaba. Al final, faltaba una sola línea. Una vez agregado, el juego se ejecuta sin necesidad de más ediciones. Si no has jugado a Sly Spy pero te ha gustado Shinobi, pruébalo: te sorprenderá. Este es un juego fácil de dominar, probablemente el más fácil de todos los títulos de Data East que hemos encontrado hasta ahora. Y no es el único juego de esta semana: Boulder Dash parte 2 también está disponible como parte de la versión beta.

El núcleo de SEGA System 16 se promociona al lanzamiento público. Esta es una decisión controvertida porque todavía tengo que planchar un par de cosas, pero será más fácil actualizarlo en el formato público.

También agregué la función de recorte vertical MiSTer (que se encuentra en NeoGeo, por ejemplo) a los núcleos de arcade. Todavía estoy actualizando los archivos porque tengo tantos núcleos que mis computadoras tardan unas horas en terminar. Tendré que dejar las computadoras funcionando durante la noche y subir los archivos el sábado por la mañana. Simplemente ejecute update_all durante el fin de semana y los obtendrá todos.

このシークレット・エージェントは先週訪ねる予定でしたが、どうやら彼は妨害活動を行う使命を持っていたようです！ゲームが起動しなかった理由を見つけるために、デバッグに4日かかりました。結局、それは一行欠けていた。追加すると、ゲームはそれ以上の編集を必要とせずに実行されます。それがデジタル設計の世界です。イチかゼロです。

Sly Spyをプレイしたことがなく、Shinobiが好きな場合は、試してみてください。びっくりすると思います。これはマスターしやすいゲームであり、これまでに出会ったすべてのDataEastタイトルの中でおそらく最も簡単なゲームです。そして、今週のゲームはこれだけではありません。BoulderDashパート2もベータ版の一部として利用できます。
