YM2610 and collaboration with Furrtek

Furrtek's amazing job on the NeoGeo is quickly getting to the point where we need sound on it. One of my Yamaha cores, the JT12, supports YM2203, which is the chip part of Ghosts'n Goblins. It is also the FM core of YM2610 -the NeoGeo sound chip. So Furrtek actually shared some of his Patreon's earnings as a token of appreciation for the JT12 work I had done. Thanks a lot Furrtek!

I am going to add ADPCM support to JT12 so it becomes a full YM2610 for the NeoGeo. That is the main topic for next month. For this month, I am working on 1943 and one more arcade core.

It is a mixed strategy. For the Yamaha cores I have information from direct measurements, from data sheets and application notes from Yamaha, from their patents, from chip photos... I try to mix all this and make an implementation that is faithful but also technically modern so it works with state-of-the-art tools and chips.

This is amazing! I would love to learn the process you use to implement these chips. Do you have schematics etc, or do you reverse engineer it by inspecting a real chip?

Exciting!!
