Ren'Py Developer Update - February 2022

This month's article is the February Ren'Py Developer Update, describing another productive month of development. This month included Visual Studio Code integration and getting Ren'Py 8 working on Android, using Python 3. It also talks about my experiences running Ren'Py on Steam Deck, including some upcoming features to better support that platform.

As always, thank you for your support. And if you're participating in this year's NaNoRenO, good luck!

Boom! Found it in extensions! It's live and wow so cool!!!

Thanks for working on the gamepad/Deck/renpy.input problem! Steam wouldn't let us say "works 100% with gamepad" because of that issue so it'll be great to have it fixed. :-)

Great update Tom!! I'm really excited about the visual studio code progress! Is this something that's live now?

I've played maybe a half-dozen visual novels, just a few minutes each for testing, and I haven't had a problem reading the text on any of them. I don't think specific ports to the Steam Deck will be required, at least when it comes to text size.

How have you found visual novels on the Steam Deck in terms of the font size? System requirements, controls and OS compatibility seem like a non-issue, as covered in the article, but I would imagine that a good deal of VNs are going to need to be updated to be more readable on that small screen. (Maybe less so for VNs which already have Android/iOS versions)
