Checking for Change and Displaying a Message

This month's article comes from a suggestion for a sponsor for a system that checks for changes in variables, and displays messages when something changes. The article covers both how I developed the system, and how to use it in your own games.

Thanks again for your sponsorship!

Wow this could be really useful! I think I may give this code a go~

Thanks for this! I'd been doing this manually but will definitely use some of what you made, too!

Hm... he seemed to indicate that this was what he wanted, though I'll admit I wasn't 100% sure. In any case, it seems to have come out as something reasonable. (And there isn't really a good way to intercept the use of a variable.)

PyTom! I just read the article which was excellent--I really enjoyed how you explained your process. Yet, I think Riva was asking for something different. Rather then the TellTale popup that says, "Eileen will remember this" at the moment the variable changes, I think Riva wanted that a popup would happen later on down the line, when the effect of that choice would manifest...like in Cinders. So. Line 100, you put a rose in your lapel, and the wearing_rose variable changes (no notification). Lines 101-499 you adventure a bunch. Line 500 you knock on a door to get into the speakeasy. The game checks to see if you are wearing the rose. Since you are, the bouncer lets you in. Now there'd be a notification indicating you are getting into speakeasy because of a prior choice.
