Avoiding Framerate Glitches Caused By Image Prediction

This month’s article talks about framerate glitches in Ren’Py - what they are, what causes them, and most importantly, some ways in which you can make sure your players don’t see them. It focuses on image prediction, describes how image prediction works, why it might fail, and how you can help Ren’Py improve its predictions.

I'll admit, it's a bit long, and a bit of a mouthful of a title. But if you're interested in making sure your animated Ren'Py game runs fast and smooth, you should consider starting here.

As always, thanks for your support!

Avoiding Framerate Glitches Caused By Image Prediction

While my projects works a lot better by manually predicting all the images in my GUI folder, I'm finding that it doesn't seem to predict all of the images, just most of them. I'm not sure exactly why. Still, this helped tremendously regardless. Thanks a bunch, Tom.

I am trying manual prediction but it doesn't seem to work. I am using: init python: renpy.start_predict("gui/*.*") renpy.start_predict("gfx/anim/*.*") renpy.start_predict("gfx/skill/*.*") renpy.start_predict("gfx/effects/*.*") in the beginning (options.rpy) but when I go to my game's combat, and press F4, the skill images show up as not predicted. Not sure why?
