G’day everyone, and Happy New Year!
First things first—yeah, I didn’t get around to doing a Christmas special like I said I might. Life, as it tends to do, had other plans. But let’s not dwell on my empty promises because I’ve actually got something exciting to share: a brand-new comic for the new year — Akiba Maid Swap.
This story dives into the lives of two maids working at the Tokyo café Neko No Koi. If you’ve been around for ChangeGPT or Sun, Sea, and Swap, you’ll already have an inkling of the kind of delightful chaos we’re about to unleash as this exists in the same universe as those two stories. As expected, you can also look forward to plenty of kawaii charm, frilly aprons, nyan-nyan poses, and all the sugar-sweet, slightly surreal vibes you’d expect from a proper Akihabara maid café.
Now, a few months ago, I shared an image of a character named Ella. She’s still on the guest list for this story, but fashionably late, as all good characters are. In the meantime, I’ve been busy crafting the first chapter, and you’ll start seeing those initial pages later this month.
A quick heads-up: this story’s going to be very character-driven. Expect a slow build-up as you get to know these two maids—their struggles, their dreams, and all the messy bits in between—before things inevitably go sideways (you know they always do).
On the technical side, this comic is presented in the manga style I’ve been experimenting with lately. That means up to four images per page instead of one or two. Unfortunately, while it’s technically “one page,” it’s also four times the work of my older style. And no, that doesn’t mean I can clone myself—yet.
I’m genuinely excited to share this story with you, and I hope you’ll enjoy what’s coming. Let me know your thoughts—I’d love to hear them.
Now, let’s get swapping.
Cheers! 🍻😼
