Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy | Episode 1

This month, Rob has asked me to check out the first episode of the 1981 TV version of "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" which all I can say is that it was... intriguing, weird and surprisingly engaging!

IMHO the set read by Fry/Freeman are nowhere near as good as the set read by the man himself Douglas Adams. Also the BBC radio plays are also good including the very first radio play that started it all - it's a very strange timeline and although the each format contains much influence there's lots that's different both ways https://imgur.com/a/rB7ZRwB With the thing analysed in detail this video does a better job of explaining the strange timeline sequence. https://youtu.be/vnVE7kRYaCY

Just as fantasitic as I remember. I must go back and reread the books. I've got a compendium somewhere with 6 books in it: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy The Restaurant at the End of the Universe Life, the Universe and Everything So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish Mostly Harmless "Young Zaphod Plays it Safe"

If you listen to audiobooks, this book series is honestly fantastic. The first one is narrated by Stephen Fry (and he does it so well), and subsequent ones done by Martin Freeman. Hands down my favourite books ever.

I'm glad you liked it Kevin, and I still can't believe that you've never read/listened/watched it before now. Most of the TV cast is the same that were used in the radio play. Your chronological sequence of radio, book, TV, then movie isn't quite* correct as H2G2 is actually a trilogy of 5, classic example of Douglas Adams humour. The actual chronological sequence is in fact very complicated, with each release playing an influence, to a greater or lesser degree, on each later releases. Books influenced by radio plays, Radio plays influenced by books. Although the first 2 radio plays came BEFORE the books. After those the radio editions all came after the books PS in the stories *after* the TV version Arthur is wearing a dressing gown. For a better explanation, the channel "Lost in Adaptation" does an excellent job of explaining the sequence. https://youtu.be/vnVE7kRYaCY He then goes on, in a couple of further videos to explain why the movie is so shite. **Contains spoilers**

Just because you don't like watching the "credits" is no reason to cut so short the classic 1975 song by the Eagles "Journey Of The Sorcerer". Also in at least one later episode there is an extra audio-only gag at the end of the credits.

Oh yes! Yes,yes, yes, yes, yes!
