WIP - The Ticking Stone Illustration

We initially did thumbs for this but we went with the more...fleshed out one.
In retrospect, we did want to give off a fairytale, Over The Garden Wall type of vibe! So for this illustration, Vaughn did the thumbnail and title, while I executed the whole thing.
This...was a bit of a mess to make. It was a lot of figuring out and experimenting that I ended up doing 4 sketch passes!! For some reason, I couldn’t seem to get the forms right! It also has been a while since I’ve done hatching so I had to play around with that too.
I also didn’t want it to come off *too* dark so it was figuring out how much spot blacks and hatching I’ll use. In the end it still ended up being a bit dark (at least for print!)
With that said though, we’re pretty proud of this illustration! We’re probably going to extend this all to wrap around to the back side of the book. We can’t wait to see the actual thing!
