Added 2018-05-18 03:17:20 +0000 UTCWorking on these studies for the past weeks, i realized that my observational drawing can use some work. I can even say it’s total garbage now haha. This is why I’ve decided to do portrait studies in this session.
What i would do was that i would draw from a reference I’ve picked. After which, i would duplicate my initial sketch and then overlay it over the reference photo. This way, I can see how off my drawings are. Lastly, I would trace over the photo to see how it would look like translated into the sketch.
So tracing is generally not recommended when drawing. But in this case, I used it as means to see how off target my observational drawing is. It also helps me in learning how to get certain shapes right. I was tracing mindfully, absorbing anything I can so that I can apply them next time I draw.
