Character development - Spicer

I found some old Spicer sketches, so I thought it would be fun to go through her development. She’s had a lot of different looks!

All the way back in 2016, I knew Spicer was going to be a character that showed up in my work, but I wasn’t sure how. She was initially made to have a very different role, and was also an elf. A few things were the same, like that she was somehow orphaned, and a bit brash.

The thing is, her old concept wasn’t quite right. Her design didn’t match her personality enough, and there were a lot of things that weren’t working right. I was really struggling with how she should look. After I started the comic in 2017, and started to develop the story more, I realized her role wasn’t fitting. So, she had to change!

She stayed elvish for a long time, but she got much closer to how she looks today in early 2018. The change to make her human just happened right before the chapter started... my thumbnails still have her with pointy ears. That change was to make her age a little less nebulous, since she’s supposed to be kind of childish.

Now that she’s appeared in the comic, her appearance is pretty much set in stone! I think I’m happy with it. Anyway, that’s all for now! Hope y’all enjoyed.
