So last year when I was in Germany arranging our move and visiting my inlaws I picked up a Boesner Sketchbook.
https://www.boesner.com/papiere/papiere/zeichenbuecher/aquarellbuch#18177
I was curious because it was hard cover and cheap.
The paper is indeed cheap, it cannot take abuse not was I expecting a 14,49 euro watercolour sketchbook too.
First page:
It's a left over painting, it's what paint is left over on my palette from a larger piece, in this case it was the constellation paintings from last year.
I wanted to see how much water the paper could take.... IT CAN but it's not happy.
Second page.
is another left over painting from something brown/orange, can't remember what... I did the whole thing in under an hour as I wanted to see if I could. So it's a sketch at best...as I'm slow.
Third Page.
My husbands fursona with a shit eating grin, I already posted this online. I have been wanting to play with heavier inking styles. I did go to art school for comics so I've always loved big bold ink, I just have lost confidence in myself over years of people in illustration preferring to hire for photo realistic approaching aka no lines.
I've learned I don't like painting that way traditional or digital so I'm trying to gain that confidence I once had with inks.
Also NOT to over work my watercolours, holy crap I'm bad at that, I think it's why I take to gouache better. Over work that medium and you make bald spots.
Fourth page.
My fursona/muse again.
I wanted something opposite to the shit eating grin so I went a grumpy sneer. Plus people like sneering cats. Again the heavy ink and trying to not over work my watercolour. Which with this cheap paper I can't without wreaking it.
Firth Page
Is Isa, I wanted to try to mix up my own attempt at the colour Opera Rose which is very neon and not lightfast. It was a failure. I made her way too dark which is a problem of mine the too dark and over painting watercolour habit..
Sixth page
This is a tiny Siamese I made in black Aqua Ink I picked up at a local store. So it's liquid watercolour, unlike the popular dr martins it in theory is lightfast. I decided to pick up black to see if I could make ink like washes with it, as it's a German product why bother buying it in Canada when we will be moving.
it's interesting you can make ink wash textures but it is rewettable so you can soften edges and lines... Which kinda feels like witchcraft when you are use too acrylic inks.
I might pick up a set in Germany as I want to play more with the black in monochrome.
So like all my sketchbooks, some pages will be Patreon only content.
