Ramble: Ramble: YouTuber Apology Videos - script doctor and rankings

It's here at last! Also it looks like the chapters feature is finally working this time. See video description for content warnings, and skip the first chapter if you don't want to hear overly long discussion about poll logistics!

Don’t know if someone already answered you or not. I had same problem. Turned out I can’t watch with my vpn on. So you can do research, I bet it’s not Jenny, but Patreon policy in general . Good luck

Polina

I can't watch this video for some reason 😭 it's asking me to sign in to YouTube but I'm signed in everywhere and it's not letting me rip. If you see this is there any chance you can add the YouTube mirror link? That's what I clicked for all the other videos I've seen (new subscriber here!)

Mojo Jojo

this is my favorite one of these 😭 and Jenny is so right that the intrigue is INSANE when you don't know what the allegations were

Tommy Raatz

W. WHY IS THE JAYSTATION APOLOGY LIKE THAT?!?!??!

PurpleIsDebeste

“Subscribers, or, people subscribed to me”

Robert Karnick

"do you know what i would do, if i had a koi, and logan paul picked up my koi??"

Emerson

Missed opportunity to begin this video with a heavy sigh

Madeleine

Ellen in her "With great power comes great responsibility" era

KateArcade

Might be a hot take but I thought Jaystation’s apology was kind of good because he acknowledged how he had let YouTube and his quest for attention drive him to do crazy shit lol.

Kendall Bessette

My take-away is; don't trust anyone over the age of their demographic, making videos for children. This stuff is really gross.

Derek Davie

I was curious so I looked up the "facetiming etika" video on archive dot org and uhhhh it's even worse than the bro made it seem in his "apology" video, complete with lights "cutting out" (spooky) and a stinger of etika's face zooming in menacingly???

Day

Battle Droid Jenny be like "Ramble Ramble"

Stigcrafter

Ricegum playing the sad Naruto music at the start of his apology is very funny

Weir99

haha the Phanpy plush flash

izzsegu

Some of these people are pretty bad, but WOW "Jaystation" is LIGHT YEARS ahead of the others!!

jamezilla

Timezones matter.

William Wallace

Love the video! Quick note about 3 AM: it’s considered to be the devilish hour because Christians believe Jesus was crucified at 3 PM - it’s a mocking inverse. Just to be clear, I’m not making a religious statement - just saying that’s where it comes from culturally.

Matthew Cirilli

Absolute banger video!

Relativt Ukendt

36:54 That voice is one of the three VO types that always rub me as fake. The Friendly Bro (this one), the Overly Familiar Woman (also dubbed the MLM) and Woman Playing Small Boy. I do voices and can do all three and each time it costs me a sliver of my eternal soul.

Hazel Davis

CSGO, my favorite racing game

Gabby

Ai couldn’t recreate Colleen’s apology video

Gabby

Hand to the camera is an indie classic, but I really wish Jenny had crawled into the megaPorg at the end of the video

MrsLeahy

49:00 The way I went from being mildly confused to absolutely HORRIFIED when Jenny explained what a 3 AM video was

Pterranodon

oh my god no u don’t understand I was there for the SimplyKenna drama; that “poem” video was BYE SISTER to me !!! but anyways if I remember right, she was accused of all sorts of stuff. One of them was claiming that certain art was her own original art when it turned out to be from Pinterest (same w her tattoos) and she’d like tell ppl they couldn’t even print “her art” out to put on their wall without crediting her (to where, I’m still not sure). She also “attacked” this creator who went by Lunestelle(? I think) bc they had the same “aesthetic” & she thought she “owned” it. She also “appropriated” a lot of Buddhist practices (it’s kinda complicated, she identified as Buddhist but she had Buddha head statues which are offensive in Buddhist culture so she was called out for being performative). Similar situation in another case where ppl think she “fetishizes” Japanese culture or people. (Just to be clear, I’m not making any opinions one way or another on if she did these things but what I do care about is that) she ended up making another apology video for that “poem” video (supposedly it was generally taken well bc she followed the advice of her critics but then she ends it by saying she monetized it lol) and then completely rebranded to Cozy_Kitsune.

Jenna

I was waiting on tenterhooks for Jaystation to mention Sonic

Daisy Frabell

she says she's still working on it at the end of this video

Mac Monkeyhat

Jenny Nicholson spreading fake jam news! Bonne Maman advent calendar had 23 jams/fruit spreads and 1 honey! lol but I agree it’s a great calendar and well worth the price bc the flavors were also like unique and interesting combos

Kiki

does anyone know if shes still planning on making/releasing the five nights at freddys video?

Reuben Saffer-Meng

Loved this one! As someone who isn't skilled at apologising this is super helpful. Apology accepted (not that it was necessary)! Thanks for making good for those whose subscriptions end before vids get out.

arnique

God the James Somerton new apology video is such unfortunate timing

Muireann McGlynn

i didnt realize there were politics to the voting? i never read the comments 😭. i didnt vote for this bc i thought it would be boring but this might be my favorite ramble (after the evermore updates)

Hayley Mills

This one was excellent. I really love your reaction videos. They’re all top tier

Grace W

“I think he’s not someone who exists in the quiet of his mind easily” is the greatest ever roast of someone with no intellectual or empathetic capacity, and the fact that he validated it immediately?? i will be using this in my daily life

Sasha

It's just so crazy to see one of my favorite youtubers talk about Colleen. I knew Colleen in high school. I was in musicals with her, and with her older brother. I've seen her since then a few times and we've chatted in a nice way. I never really watched her videos but I was always like "oh, cool. Someone from school is a little bit famous. Good for her." Now it's just really weird.

man, JUST too late to include the james somerton apology vid (not the first one where he was super upset, that feels a little too mean, but certainly the new one lmao). im obsessed with the way jenny included framing as a grading criteria--literally never thought of that but shes right it does make a huge difference (and in some cases can be bad in REALLY funny ways)

I feel Loganpaul and Jaystation do rely on the idea of them being idiots or appearing to be idiots to release them of some flack. If their conduct was a one off with no consistent pattern of behavior I’d feel to grant it but it doesn’t appear to be. Hell Jay himself seems to mock people actually upset with him for being mad at him. At a certain point it looks less like ignorance and weaponized ignorance—their perceived lack of understanding is what they think will protect them. Think of Peter Griffen in his mental disability—he is disabled, honestly, but he used it as an excuse to be an utter monster to those around him. I agree Miranda and Ellen(who tbf is accused of far less bad things), appear fully aware of what and why people are mad at them, it’s easier to see their “apologies” as an attack on their detractors for being unreasonable.

It's funny how well the Logan Pauls and Jaystations of the world come across in situations like this. There's a kind of dopey endearing charm to their apology videos--they seem to lack the emotional intelligence to fully appreciate their wrongdoing, but they take responsibility and admit they made mistakes. It's like they do bad things because they lack the sophistication to understand how much harm they're causing, not because they know an action to be wrong but do it anyway because they believe they can get away with it. The Simply Kenna and Miranda Sings apologies, on the other hand, feel far more insidious--cringe notwithstanding. They definitely have the emotional intelligence to understand that what they did was wrong, but they use that emotional intelligence as a weapon, to manipulate and obfuscate the situation, to avoid taking on the full weight of responsibility, to sidestep the onus to change or do better. I wouldn't want to be friends with Jaystation, but I'd much rather deal with him than some of the others--he seems like a "what you see is what you get" sort of deal. Speaking of manipulation, I didn't read Ellen's apology as "I own up to being a mean person" so much as "my employees are crybabies because they expect me to be ON all the time and it's draining, especially after I spend so much time and energy serving YOU, my adoring public!" But I admit there's a lot of wiggle room for interpretation.

Squidward voice: who watches videos at 3 am?!

Amy Shine

This is very topical now for my county: in the past 2 weeks in Hungary we had a political scandal, which resulted in the president and two former ministers stepping down. Their "apologies" were the worst, and would have been in the bottom among the ones you included.

Which Patreon vid did Jenny talk about jaystation in? I really wanna watch it now

Sorry to hear you got hives! Sounds awful, hope they stay away. Always great to hear about slime of any type though

THE GAY POTION

FlorenceOfFlowers

I remember The Slap. The Slap is very special to me. I was on Twitter and I saw a video of a beloved good times icon slap a neurodivergent man for making an insensitive joke about a woman's disability, and all the participants were Black, at the Oscars, and my mind unfolded like Harrier Du Bois' mind palace. I could see all the discourse threads branching out, all the tweets scrolling over it like a ticker tape, I could see the Youtube hot take video titles and the rubble of the social justice wasteland, and the word "canceled" blaring over it like an air raid siren, and the sheer exhaustion made me reflect on all my time spent on social media, and I decided, No. No more of this. No more twitter, no more takes, no more callouts, no more digging through fifteen layers of increasingly unhinged Tumblr tea blogs for yellowed receipts, no more. Never again. I'm good on discourse for the rest of my life. The Slap changed my life. So Who's to say if it was bad?

Clementine Danger

You could probably end the polls within a day of posting it - even within the space of an hour you can see which one is the most popular and it basically never changes. Whether that's because people can see what others voted for or one just catches the collective mood, it's pretty consistent
