Ramble: Main Channel Video Idea Graveyard

Comments

I know I'm like 2 years late. But I DID watch the beanie baby documentary and I was so obsessed with it for weeks that I kept telling everyone in my life about it constantly. And that's a zero percent deterrent to me really wanting a beanie babies video from you.

Kristin Boren

Late to the party, but dftba seems like a reliable merch shop, and they're owned by Hank and John Green! I've bought a few items from YouTubers on there and they were great quality. There's also some more unique merch options like pins and plushes they host as well. I'm not sure how it is they accept new creators but it definitely could be something to look into!

Noelle

catching up on old posts and I was so pleased to hear you bring up that show in the Lincoln Presidential Museum -- I was in Springfield this July for a work trip and I went there, having never heard of it and not expecting anything at all. I was so blown away by both the show and the environments & staging in the museum (it's like a walkthrough experience with animatronics and scenes that supplement the artifacts) that I said out loud to my partner multiple times "Damn, Jenny Nicholson needs to make a video about this" lol

Dex

This point about Ken Bretschneider being in love with the dream of *building* a park makes me think about that moment in the Evermore video where he leaves his SUV in plain sight all day. I wonder if he didn't leave it there because he *wanted* to be seen there doing his big business, even when it broke the immersion that the park was theoretically there for.

Jeffrey Sun

Referencing your Trapped in a Island video has brought my family together. My fiancée (her name is Kaitlynne, I swear to god) loves Josh Hutcherson so the video is a favourite of hers, and she's in her early thirties. And now he's having a kickstart in his career, so her highschool age sister now loves him just as much and has found your video, and now it's a family meme and reference across generation. So the FNAF video on the eventual horizon feels like it's for us lol

Abigail Duerksen

You can still buy both of the Jeff the Killer books on Amazon. I just did :)

Seely Hauger

Hearing Jenny’s thought process I think she should hire an editor if only to remind her to keep on a schedule and tell her what parts to keep in video. And maybe if Jenny just cant part with certain details maybe make a director’s cut for patrons and a streamline version for main channel. I dont expect a vid a month, especially if she drops her short formats, but maybe can get like a couple per year. Oh so that’s where my knott’s video went. How sad.

Robert Romero Jr

A Polly Pocket video would be everything to me *-* the more self-indulgent the better

Winston

if you decide to make merch i would really LOVE an impervious to damage crash bandicoot shirt!

Guilherme Tecianelli

YOU MET JARJAR?!

Elaina

So I know this is an old video but I'm a new patron lol. But the fact that the lightsabers you build at Disney aren't rechargeable?? What?? I bought a generic, unbranded one online for $80 and it's rechargeable, the fact you're paying $200+ for a battery powered saber is unforgivable to me lol

ItsNate98

A Polly Pockets video would, without a doubt, instantly become my favourite from your video roster. I had Polly Pockets as a kid and loved them so so so much. As an adult, I miss them dearly. I think about them a few times a year, wondering what my parents did with them and where in this wide world they’ve ended up. I search online every once in a while for listings of the ones I had as a kid. I would love to listen to any length video you create sharing your knowledge and research and thoughts and anecdotes on this wonderful toy 💜💜💜

Wren

Okay, but like please do all of those things. I don't care how many other youtubes cover a topic. I want to watch your video on it. I love all the content you put out and wish there was more. Hence why I joined the pateron. The only one I get is the creepypasta follow up, you're right, we can't have nice things. And with the shows that you watch intermittently you could just film after watching one season or whatever, then re watch what you filmed and add to it instead of re watching the whole series from the start. Then add a section at the end tieing it all together if you want. I don't care if your room looks totally different or if "you've aged!" I could literally listed to you talk about random stuff all day. Wait, I already do that! You make good content!!!!

Alexa

I saw Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark as a kid! I saw it on December 21, 2012, the day the world was predicted to end. I remember there was a line in the show where peter and mj are together on a roof or something and one of them had to say "the world could be ending out there..." and the actor couldn't make it through the line without laughing

Katie

I would love to watch beanie babies video

Gothshark

Heyyy Jenny I’ve got a shop question for u!! Super basic, but I’m curious as to how you got the footage from the Dear Evan Hansen Movie to use in your video. I’ve been attempting to make a similar video on a different series of movies, but have been unable to get or capture any actual clips from the text itself. Any recommendations?

Jaxon Williams

I, as a 30 year old man with absolutely zero interest in the show, watched a 2 and a half hour video on the Vampire Diaries. I just wanna hear Jenny talk about things she's passionate about. That's all it takes.

Alexander Tettenborn

I think that things like the Dear Evan Hansen video's success are evidence that people largely enjoy you being thoughtful overall and care less about the actual topic. I think you might be overthinking what would or wouldn't work versus trusting that people enjoy hearing you discuss something generally.

Notation

That comment about native Americans being more than crafts and dancing was such a gut punch

As a girl from The South, I would love to see a video about all weird kitschy Tennessee tourist stuff around Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Also Dollywood. It gets no love from the theme park video people!

Emily Lewis

NOT THE MYSTERY LODGE :( rest in peace

Lauren Zhang

I appreciate the insight into why the main channel is sparse nowadays. Unasked-for business advice: when you've built your YouTube channel on medium-effort Ramble-like videos, it's fine to switch to high-effort videos, but you don't need to be embarrassed about or afraid of the algorithm's effect on your medium-effort videos! That's how subscribers became subscribers in the first place, because they like the way your mind works and want to see more. The correlation between creator effort invested and viewer enjoyment is not 1:1. Bottom line: you're an interesting conversationalist. Anyway, now I can enjoy watching Patreon posts without uneasily wondering why similar content is seldom posted to the main channel, so thanks for explaining that.

Maximilian Wilson

What about the DFTBA shop? Like with the Green Bros

All of these ideas are incredible but oh my god, the Mystery Lodge videooooo aaaa I'd love to see it

Acornheart

I just checked and the Jeff the killer paperback is back up on Amazon, holy shit

Zachary Coleman

I would personally compete in Scream queens season 2 if we got a spider-man turn off the dark video from u (or whatever else u decide to make obv. But omfg)

Release the Synder Cut Jenny!

Vaelyhn

As you were describing the mysterious, inscrutable, and now defunct “pepper’s ghost” ride, I was thinking how much it sounded like the show at the Lincoln library/ museum in Springfield. So, it’s interesting that similar (same?) tech was used. If you’re ever in that part of the country sampling our vast array of Mold-A-Rama machines it’s definitely worth a stop at the Lincoln library. It’s quite an experience!

Audrey lopata

Oh my god I have been trying to figure out for YEARS what show I saw at knotts in like 2000 and no one ever knew what I was talking about but now I know it was the mystery lodge!!

I just officially joined your patreon, but I have been a fan for years. I cycle through re-watching your huuuge library of stuff as often as I can get away with it. Your sense of humor, your editing, your talent at pulling everything together within a topic in a way that flows REALLY well -- all of it is so impressive and so lovely to watch. I usually have your videos on in the background while I work & it does so much to help me focus. I just wanted to say thank you for all of the time & effort you put into every video you make; it all really shows.

bramblepaws

I, for one, would love a Polly Pocket video

LilacSunflower6

Couple of people I watch use 'IRL merch' if you are still looking at getting a new shop

Jana

the percy jackson video is itself a ramble, look for buffy/percy jackson

Majima Cookie

What happened to the Percy Jackson video thats referenced in older rambles?

robbie

I second this, i referenced Josh hutcherson trapped in a island while watching the fnaf movie with friends and no one laughed so this would feel like justice to me personally

d0gm0nster

please please jenny fnaf movie video also i think if you did a fnaf josh hutcherson fanfic video it would be a fun semi-sequel to trapped in a island

i just wanted to say that you have a huge knack for making absolutely *anything* fascinating, and the little tidbit you said about jake(?logan?both?)paul and pokemon cards made me so hungry for more!! idgaf about the beanie babies documentary or drama series at all. but whatever video you decide to make about it will be a constant rewatch!

Sarah Patterson

Idk why but I think a very wide video about Jenny’s ideas about collectables and the fan fare around them would be so fun. Like just a general history of the collector crazes of the past would be such a great hours long video. Even better a series of videos about the wildest fan craze collectables from history.

Somehow, Slendermansion returned.

Shaun Cheah

Ooh I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed, lol. I was like wait… Scream Queens? That sounds familiar…. I’m sure he didn’t actually steal the idea but I know Jenny watches his channel and I assume he watches hers so I was like hmmmmmm *side-eyes Nick*

Moomin8577

I was trying to see if there were any existing copies of Welcome to the Mansion available anywhere, and at some point it went back on sale on Amazon. I don't know if it's the author who put it up or someone else. Either way, it's returned.

AE

Obligatory "nick diramio stole your idea!" joke.

Amy Shine

Excellent update to the video on YouTube! I just recently watched it (a couple of times) and thought wow, this is so neat, and it's been a couple of years since this, I wonder what it's like now... Also so cool that they gave you those cards and coins and stuff, that's really awesome! I think you single handedly did more for the park then most current Influencers (post covid), so it's cool you had some recognition there, and got to go in the tavern. That's crazy the restaurant closed down, and I agree the meet and greet should have been in there. Such a good video to the first and I'm so happy I decided to check out your Patrion and found this gem! Ugh I put my comment under the wrong video, pretend that this comment is under the Evermore video.

you should definitely do beanie babies now that they're doing the new line and collectors are getting interested in them again!! beanie babies is also one of my special interests and i am full of beanie baby facts despite not owning very many

I’m rooting for a dogs purpose 🙏🏻

Kara Kaspar

You should use DFTBA for merch! John and Hank Green would definitely not scam you lmao

Itır Muki Kozikoğlu

Once Upon a Time was so chaotic. My sister and I spent three years after watching that show quoting Belle's "My chipped cup" line because it was so absurd. Great trash TV, hope that video leaves the graveyard someday

A lot of creators I follow use the DFTBA store, which is highly recommended

Anonymous Bosch

I will say that given how unsure you were about concepts that were already done, Laura Crone has done a swan princess video essay and The channel Whipjack just started a OUAT series. I'd still love to see your take on those concepts and I'm sure the well hasn't been completely rung dry but given how many graveyard entries were because the idea had already been done, it might be worth knowing so if that is an issue you don't put effort into a concept you'd want to stop later because it's been done.

Suedini

DROP A BEANIE BABY VIDEO! Please! I want to know what happened with the trend and after. It was my childhood!

Once upon a time had such a nice aesthetic but I'm also convinced the writers copy-pasted every season's script for the next season, just added a new villain and switched out the side characters

Janine

I think if you have stuff that ties in with a main video but didn't work in the big picture, that's good material for a second channel/additional short vids on main/patreon exclusives, so people who really want a full deep dive can have the cutting room floor content that was interesting but maybe felt off-theme or distracted from a bigger main point. I have seen writers talk about cutting stuff from their work that was good but just didn't feel like it totally fit (like the Paul brother/Pokemon card digression) and just putting it into a new document - that way their work isn't lost but they still keep it in case it's usable elsewhere. I'm always excited for whatever you put out because I know you've put hard work into it and you've done something that actually interested you instead of specifically chasing a trend. the passion about a topic shines through and makes your videos so great!

Melissa

Some ideas in response to this ramble. 1. You could possibly move forward with the beanie baby video and instead on cutting parts, move them into a new script-dump called "part 2". Might make it easier to let go of those parts of the scripts compared to outright deleting them. 2. I would love to see an additional poll maybe on a quarterly basis where you list graveyard ideas and members vote, so that you can gathet metrics on which are worthwhile for the future. You dont need to make promises to make those vids, just have the poll to get feedback from viewers.

Oh wow, you beanie baby section unlocked a huge memory for me, of a family friend having a little business selling non-licensed beanie stuff. I specifically remember us having just a bulk box of tag protectors and cases i would play with more than the beanies themselves.

It's nice to hear some insight into why creators with many subscribers go so long between videos. Either way, Jenny, the appearance of one of your videos always brightens my day.

Cafe Equinox

15:00 is - Noononononono! Jenny! It's MORE than okay to write in the Book! TSK the naysayers! REMEMBER! /How did Harry Potter Pass Potions Class???/ Comment in it! write your thoughts down! highlight passages! When you do this to any book / textbook you're increasing the book's intellectual value! I always buy used books and textbooks and always look for the ones that have personality in them!

I literally pumped my fist in the air when you said you might do an OUAT video. Would love that!!!! I binged all the seasons in a row like two years ago and it was a vibe ngl

Please do Once Upon a TIme, it was such a fever dream of a show and it had so much squandered potential!

That said I'm really not ON THE INSIDE or whatever so I guess I said this for no reason lol

Thorn

I can't speak to it from a creator standpoint but ik Keith Ballard recently did merch through Fourthwall and it came out really nice. The material and print quality of the shirt I got was surprisingly high - much better than the standard print-on-demand stuff

SeptSapphire

you should do the dog's purpose one, those movies are so weird

Holly L

it’s actually such a funny coincidence the very day you upload a video in which you say you’d like to make a video about once upon a time, haley whipjack uploads the first part of their full recap of the show (i still think you should do the video)

The part one of the Star wars land video is one of the YouTube videos I've revisited a lot. It is so quality. I have always hoped for the second part, but I'm glad it was mentioned in this video!

Lindsey Kaneko

am i the only one surprised that jenny doesnt have a team working with her? someone to help her with merch and editing and stuff? theres people with a lot less subs and a lot less involved content that utilize a team. Jenny, are you doing everything yourself?

Every time I see the beanie babies on your door, I remember that you are working on your beanie babies video and get excited. Now hearing you talk about it, I am somehow more excited. #releasethebeaniebabiesdirectorscut

I would absolutely love that fictional star wars theme park tshirt lol

pinkythepinkthing

You know, you could start making a Polly Pocket video now, and if it gets finished leave it on ice until the Polly Pocket *movie* comes out, and then your video won't be super-indulgent but would instead be very relevant and on-trend.

Isaac Lawton

We as a country need the beanie baby video. If that snippet is anything to go by, don’t leave anything out

Ryan Kearns

YES to the scream queens video! such an interesting concept for a reality show

Brennan Lux

I thought you meant the Star cruiser video was cancelled when you talked about Star Wars land pt 2 and I'm so serious I would have cried

Jackson Hudak

Genuinely scandalized that you had people asking you if you even make youtube videos. Why would anyone say that in person or in an online comment. I wonder if part of the reason for this is that your presentation in the videos comes off as effortless, and most youtube videos either have 1000x as much artifice or are just uninteresting rambles. So in a way maybe it is a strangely positive thing that they seem way easier to produce than they are.

Alexander Waagen

Ghost in the Library in Springfield Illinois! I know exactly what you’re talking about; that was my childhood!
