I don't have twitter so I'm posting this here in reaction to the 'I'm filming a pole' video: I wonder if they were going to have a separate dinner theater room / finale stage area planned, with a regular cafeteria for general meals, but had to scrap the ideas early due to budget cuts. So they had to combine the dinner show into the cafeteria and then move the finale awkwardly into the atrium.

What Some might argue the whole thing was a big elaborate commercial for amusement parks! It’s a perpetual money sinkhole that they think will go on forever. What The new generation of kids don’t want action figures anymore. What Who wants to play with their grandpa’s old Luke &Han toys for the rest of eternity? What Kids want video games and Fortnite & Minecraft stuff. What Lightsaber training doesn’t even make sense unless it’s a spaceship for Jedi students! “What” is something you say to a person you’re verbally/ physically talking to when you can’t hear them, and need to repeat what they said for clarity. What Without saying anything else in text form- “What” as a response makes you a bona fide stupid idiot. What Adding a ‘like’ to the comment of: what- is a bottom feeder move, of a bona fide stupid idiot, kewl guy! What Comment on me again and I’ll tell you what I REALLY think.

I feel like I theory I would love to go do an experience like starcruiser but in reality there’d probably be some annoying guest that would be in my group that I would be stuck with. I’m 100% sure that there would be someone in my group that I would absolutely HATE. I feel like it would suck to just be stuck in close quarters with a bunch of random people for your $6000 hotel stay.

I also wonder how dad friendly this experience is, like if you just wanted to sleep all day would you be technically allowed? I know my dad would be annoyed by having this do a bunch of random stuff. It's really interesting to me that Disney has invested so much in a roleplay experience to this scale. Obviously it's impossible to compare them, but I would've thought that something mission/quest-based like Evermore or similar LARPing experiences would stay relatively fringe. I wonder how Starcruiser will inform other large scale roleplaying experiences in the future?

Hooray for double ramble! Thank you for spoiling us this one time. There seemed to be a lot of "Here's what I hope they do, but they'll probably do this" in the predictions. Makes me think the ensuing video (which I'm confident will be great and I'm excited for) will have basically the same theme as my Book of Boba Fett review: "There are some many better things this could have been if they could have been bothered to try." Now that I say that the hotel would probably also be much better with more Timothy Olyphant.

Saw a spoiler-free review that said you can talk to guest services if you're not on a story path that you wanted to be and they can sort of subtly switch you over. She said you can do it in character too, and saw someone say something like "my friend was sent on this mission and I wanted to get in on it". Seems like a very good thing to know if you're worried about wasting your thousands of dollars on a rigged card game plot line.

I hope that the star cruiser thing ends up being better than people are expecting. But all the updates about extra add ons and costs (not to mention all the rumors of severe budget cuts and changes) makes that seem unlikely. I just don’t want the people who splurged on it hoping for it to be a wonderful family experience to end up regretting it or feeling ripped off. I just want to believe that some things in this world can still feel like magic, like a fully immersive role playing vacation 😔

So excited to hear your review! I'm really curious about one thing most of the chatter seems to be missing- how the fellow guests can make or break the experience. I've done character improv acting before and there's always some edgy kid or parent who will try to break the magic every second for no reason. Or ask about a character's wig. Or ask what kind of car a character drives 'in real life'. And we all know there's going to be those kids or spouses that were dragged along who unironically ask if the characters know Spock. And if it's anything like an escape room... Well, even if it's nailed down, it won't stop people from trying to break it in pursuit of a clue. The cast members have a lot more to deal with than most people realize. Also: How long until someone goes to the hotel playing a spice dealer?

In regards to #12, I'm very curious to hear how they present in-story emergencies and how they're differentiated from real life ones. Doing safety orientation in an in-story manner does sound fun, but I wonder if that would cause any confusion. If a fire is set, will the alarms go off and all the guest will think "ooh, how fun?"

Not the juiciest of leaks, but I know someone who was going to be a bartender on the cruise. Apparently upper management has been really freaking out and changing a lot of things at the last second (they actually got let go due to last minute downsizing). They used to have a really interesting menu of weird and alien looking cocktails, but that has been scrapped and a lot of the original items have been replaced with more traditional cocktails (they'll probably have star wars-y names though). Also, one of the execs was apparently weirdly intent on adding more gin drinks, seemingly just because they really like gin.

That's kind of ironic because I did once have a legitimate security issue while staying at disney world, because somebody knowing only that I was there and my first and last name was able to pull up my entire itinerary. They didn't need my booking confirmation number or anything you'd expect them to need Edit to add I don't think they really meant anything by it and nothing bad happened and I didn't want to get them in trouble, but it really unnerved me how much info they casually had access to when they had no need for any of that info for their particular job. Also including which hotel I was staying at which I had not posted anywhere online, and which they casually brought up in conversation lol

Re: Tracking the magic bands - A good friend did a bunch of InfoSecurity work on the Magic Bands when they were first introduced. The short version is that Disney didn't want an employee to be able to track any one individual. There's lots of bad press that could come from it, and Disney is generally allergic to that. (Imagine someone tracking their ex through the park.) So there are lots of controls in place preventing individual tracking due to the privacy issues. However, they do use the tracking in a lot of interesting ways to judge crowd levels throughout the park, general movement patterns, and more recently to feed some of the Genie+ stuff. Now, take all of this with a grain of salt, as I'm clearly parroting stuff second hand as I recall it from someone who told me stuff over the course of a few years...
